At around 10 this morning (Manila Time), President-elect Noynoy Aquino will be formally inaugurated as the 15th President of the Republic Philippines at The Quirino Grandstand in Manila. Noynoy Aquino is the son of two Philippine Heroes; late president Corazon Aquino whose leadership effectively ended an abusive dictatorship and former senator Benigno Aquino Sr., who valiantly fought the Marcos regime during his term and was eventually assassinated in 1983 upon returning to the Philippines after years of exile in the United States.

Perhaps triggered by the outpouring support of the Filipino people seen in Cory Aquino's wake and funeral procession last year and motivated by his own desire to serve the nation and continue his family's legacy, Noynoy Aquino decided to run for Presidency in the 2010 Philippine National Elections. As fate would have it, he eventually won the seat by more than 5.7 million votes over his closest rival, former president Joseph Ejercito Estrada. Aquino garnered a total of 15,208,678 votes vs. Estrada's 9,487,837 votes.
