Got this story from PEP.
Earlier this morning, before the break of dawn, a blood-soaked ABS-CBN Actor-Director Ricky Rivero rushed himself to Philippine Heart Center after receiving seventeen stab wounds in the chest and torso.
So who exactly attacked him? The suspect is a guy named Hans Ivan Ruiz from Meycauayan, Bulacan whom Rivero met in Facebook five months ago.
According to the report, last night, Rivero brought Ruiz home to his apartment located in Masikap St., Diliman, Quezon City. Past midnight, the two had an argument over money as Ruiz asked for some while Rivero was preparing to leave for a shoot. The argument led to the vicious attack with Ruiz leaving the apartment, carrying Rivero's laptop with him. After a while though, Ruiz returned to the crime scene - apparently - to clean-up evidence that can point to him as the culprit. Ruiz found Rivero still alive, asking for help. Then, the barangay tanods arrived (we're not sure yet how they learned of the incident) in aid of Rivero and were able to apprehend Ruiz. Miraculously, despite sustaining multiple stab wounds, Rivero was able to drive himself to Philippine Heart Center for immediate treatment. Eventually, he was transferred to nearby St. Luke's Medical Center.
Just this afternoon, Rivero positively identified Ruiz as his attacker.
Philippine Daily Inquirer had talked to Ruiz's live-in partner, Christine Ann Cortez, 20 who shared that --
Ruiz’s father had just been admitted at a hospital in Bulacan for high blood and asthma on Sunday evening. At around 10 p.m., Ruiz had told her he would be meeting with Rivero in Quezon City.
“It seemed like he was going to borrow money,” she stated [in Filipino].
She was surprised, she said, when Ruiz texted her on Monday that “something had happened.” [...]
Cortez, also one-month pregnant with Ruiz’s child, said Ruiz claimed innocence. “I can’t imagine him doing what they say he did. He is a good man, the breadwinner of his family, and he has an office job.”
Meanwhile, Ruiz is still denying any involvement in the crime. He told PDI, "We were sleeping when he started yelling, 'Don’t stab me!'"
Ruiz said that he saw a knife beside Rivero but did not know where it came from. “He thought I was the one who hurt him. I also thought he was going to kill me so we struggled over the knife,” he added.
I'm just glad Ricky Rivero survived this horrible incident. We all should pray for his speedy recovery.
But what lesson can we learn here?
1. Be careful who you befriend on Facebook.
2. And be more careful who you bring home with you.
