Facebook for Android Shows 'via Facebook Mobile' Instead of 'via Android' in Status Updates, Irate Android Users Want Their Old Status Tag Back - with Logo!

Some Android users are downright angry and utterly upset that Facebook altogether replaced 'via Android' tag in their mobile status updates with the generic 'via Facebook Mobile.'

Apparently, the problem started when users updated their FB for Android app to version 1.6.3, which supposedly fixes a number of bugs that caused the app to crash. But as it turned out, what the update really did was it removed the tag that most of them cherish.

Here's what some of them have to say about this action by Facebook:

facebook for android
"Bring back Facebook for Android," says Kevin Nave Rivera from the Philippines. Fede Gratti follows up, "We want 'via Android' + logo."

One dismayed user blamed the current Facebook vs. Google war for the removal of the tag. "We understand the war between FB & Google, but that shouldn't affect app, e.g., sent via Android should be restored," he said on FB for Android's Facebook Page.

Seeing that Facebook for iPhone users are in a similar quagmire, another irate FB for Android user attacked the very character and work ethics of developers working on the applications, "I think they're trying to be blind by not reading our sentiments. [It's just not fair for Android and iPhone users to have their status indicated by that via mobile thing. We, Android and iPhone users, want our respective "via Android" and "via iPhone" with logo back as soon as possible! Why do BB users still have that logo and 'via Blackberry' status on their updates while we, Android and iPhone users, lost our "via Android" and "via iPhone" status? Come on now, don't be blind!]"

Facebook's Response: It's a Bug

One user took it upon himself to write Facebook regarding this issue. He got this return mail a week ago:

Hi,

Thank you for submitting this bug report and taking time to help us improve the site. Although we are unable to reply to every bug report at this time, we may contact you for more details as we troubleshoot the issue you reported.

If you have not already done so, make sure you are using the latest version of your device application.

Screen shots often help our team diagnose problems that users are seeing. To submit a screenshot, please attach your screenshot in a reply to this email. You can take a screen shot on an iPhone by hitting the Home button and the Power button at the same time. This screen shot will be saved in your Photos.

Finally, please note that Facebook cannot provide any support for applications built by external developers. Currently, the Facebook for iPhone and Facebook for Android applications are built by Facebook. If you continue experiencing issues with a mobile device application built by external developers, we recommend contacting the developer. You can do this by going to the application’s page and clicking the "Contact Developer" link on the left hand side of the page.

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

The Facebook Team

TP Thoughts:

First off, that response is as generic as 'Facebook Mobile'. What's up with that, Facebook?

Anyway, I'm an Android user and I don't mind not getting that tag. But if an actual bug keeps it from showing up, then it has to be fixed. Hopefully this has nothing to do with Google+, but if it has, let me say this, "Facebook, it's YOUR issue. Deal with it."
