Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G Philippines Price and Release Date Guesstimate, Complete Specs, Key Features

Announced at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA just a few hours ago, Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G is the follow-up to the Chinese company's highly successful Ascend Mate phablet, which saw official release in the Philippines last June 2013.

The 4G LTE-enabled smartphone-tablet hybrid is Huawei's new flagship performer that gives consumers more power and a bigger screen, a combo that - according to the company - helps users "seize opportunities at every moment." With its very large 6.1-inch HD IPS screen, massive non-removable 4,050 mAh Li-Ion battery, and 5 Megapixel front-facing camera made specifically for great selfies (just like that of the very popular TechPinas Badge of Excellence Awardee Huawei Ascend P6). Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G is perfect for enjoying more non-stop entertainment and has enough power to let you watch six downloaded movies one after the other or listen to up to 100 hours of music on a single charge.

"With Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G, we are bringing the benefits and convenience of superfast connectivity to people everywhere," shared Mr. Colin Giles, Executive Vice President of Huawei's Consumer Business Group. "Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G is power-packed for the mobile generation who want non-stop entertainment on the go, such as the ability to snap and download photo albums in seconds or use their smartphone as their mobile office."

But supporting LTE mobile connection (with speeds of up to 42 mbps in the Philippines) is just one of the many things that are special about this release. For one, its innards are quite good. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system skinned by Huawei's very own Emotion UI 2.0 (bringing Floating Window and One-Hand-Use functionality) with its Quad-core 1.6 GHz ARM Cortex A7 CPU and Adreno 306 GPU based Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 chipset and handles multitasking with 2GB of RAM. Users will also get a rather sizable 16 GB of internal storage that they can even expand via the device's microSD card slot supporting up to 64 GB. The phone's SoC should be good enough to deliver a smooth gaming performance - regardless of the title - and a great overall touch experience.

At 6.1 inches, Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G's large screen is definitely ideal for viewing documents, watching movies, reading e-books, playing games, or browsing pictures. And with the phablet's 13 Megapixel rear-facing autofocus camera featuring BSI sensor, 2.0 aperture, and Sony-made lens enables crystal clear and vibrant photos, whatever the occasion. This shooter is complemented by the 5 MegaPixel front-facing cam with vertical panorama and Auto Face Enhancement creating an enjoyable and fun-filled selfie experience.

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G's very big 4,050 mAh Li-Ion battery pack does more than deliver a greatly extended uptime. Apparently, it holds so much juice that you can use the phablet to charge other handsets! Just connect your other phone running on low battery to the Mate2 via USB cable and you're good to go. Isn't that cool?

So when is it coming to the Philippines and how much will it cost? First off, Huawei Philippines has already emailed us about the Mate2 4G so it's definitely coming to the country. They didn't mention, though, exactly when and how much it will cost. Off hand, we're guessing that it will land here sometime in Q2 2014 with price tag of around Php 17,000 to Php 18,000. Stay tuned for updates, TP Friends!
