Samsung Galaxy A5, one of the Korean company's trio of metal-clad midrange handsets for 2015, has just been officially launched in the Philippines. Starting this week, it will be out in a range of colors - namely, Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, Soft Pink, Light Blue, Pearl White, and Midnight Black - and will have an official suggested retail price of Php 19,990.

If you're wondering why the price tag is a bit on the steep side, well, I guess it's because Samsung used premium materials in crafting the phone's shell - aluminum, to be specific - aside from the fact that the phone supports 4G LTE connectivity. Of course, it also features Samsung's very own Android user interface - called TouchWiz - which should already be familiar to a lot of consumers and comes with value-added software features from the company.

As I've mentioned in a previous post, there are three things that make the A-Series rather special compared to previous mid-level smartphones from Samsung like the popular Grand-line. First, they sports a thin and elegant real metal enclosure. Second, they have a vastly improved 5 MegaPixel front-facing camera for selfies. And third, they are now equipped with the company's brilliant and crisp SuperAMOLED display panel.

Samsung Galaxy A5 - quite obviously - is in between the A3 and A7 in terms of price, specs, and size -- with A7 being the biggest, most powerful, and most expensive of the bunch.

Measuring 139.3 x 69.7 x 6.7 mm and weighing 123 grams, SGA5 flaunts a 5-inch HD SuperAMOLED display, a 13 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash at the back, Full HD video recorder, 4G LTE connectivity support, and a non-removable 2,300 mAh Li-Ion battery pack. Under the hood, the phone runs its TouchWiz-skinned Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system with a Quad Core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A53 and Adreno 306 GPU based Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset, has 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM that users can expand via microSD card slot supporting up to 64GB. The combination of these internal hardware give Samsung Galaxy A5 an Antutu Benchmark Score in the area of 21,474.

Let me know your thoughts about Samsung Galaxy A5, TP Friends. Are you willing to spend this much money on a smartphone from the Korean company with the above-mentioned specs and features? Or would you rather get a flagship handset from another manufacturer that costs a lot less? Do you think Samsung will be able to maintain its number position in the list of top handset makers this year?
