Cherry Mobile Flare S4 vs. Flare 4 Comparison Video, Side by Side Photos

This post is for all of you guys who've been emailing me and sending me questions on Facebook and Twitter over the past few days on how exactly the newly announced Cherry Mobile Flare 4 and Flare S4 - which both have the same Php 4,999 price tag - differ from each other.

Before I show you my interview with Mr. Lonson Alejandrino - Product Marketing Manager of Cherry Mobile - where he compared these fraternal twins, here are a few side by side photos of the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 and Flare 4 just to give you an idea of how they are different in terms of design and construction.

As you can see in these photos, Flare S4 has a squarish footprint as a opposed to the rounder look of the Flare 4. Comparing them with international handset models, I'd say Flare S4 looks like the past two Huawei Ascend flagship models - albeit lacking a glass back plate - while Flare 4 is reminiscent of Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4. What do you think, guys?

So which handset looks better? I think it all depends on the taste and preference of the person looking at the devices. Sir Lonson and I agree that girls might find the Flare 4 more attractive simply because it's rounder -- but I'm sure that's not 100% true for all girls across the country. Nonetheless, Flare 4 has a more advanced camera plug-in for taking better looking selfies, which I'm sure many girls will appreciate.

Both models anodized CNC-prepared aluminum side frame - previously absent in the Flare series - making them look and feel more durable and elegant. "We want to show consumers that just because Flare phones are very affordable doesn't mean that they have to look cheap," Sir Lonson told me.

As for the available colors, you can get Flare S4 in White, Gold, and Silver. Flare 4, on the other hand, is out in Pink, Gold, Black, and White -- with the last two having back plate with faux leather finish similar to what's on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

When it comes to technical specifications, they are practically one and the same. Both have a 5-inch HD IPS display, 2.5D DragonTrail Glass touchscreen, 13 MegaPixel autofocus camera with Single LED flash and BSI sensor, 5 MegaPixel BSI front cam for selfies, Full HD video recorder, 4G LTE connectivity support, and Dual SIM (two microSIM card slots) Dual Standby capability. Flare 4 has a removable 2,100 mAh battery while S4 has a 2,200 mAh pack that you can also pull out; I think the 100 mAh difference in size is too small for users to feel a noticeable boost in S4's uptime.

Under the hood, they run their almost-vanilla Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with a powerful 64-Bit Octa Core 1.3 GHz ARM Cortex ARM Cortex A53 and 700 MHz Mali T720 MP3 GPU based MediaTek MT6753 chipset, handle multitasking with 2 GB of RAM, and have 16GB of ROM that you can easily beef up using the devices' microSD card memory expansion slot.
