Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0 Price 3,999, Specs, Release Date, In the Flesh Photos : Exclusive Interview with Mr. Lonson Alejandrino

Yesterday, at the Amethyst Room of Diamond Hotel in Manila, local electronics giant Cherry Mobile officially launched the follow-up to its monster best-seller last year, the Cherry Mobile Flare.

Donning a price tag of only Php 3,999 - the same as that of its predecessor upon launch, Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0 has officially become the most affordable quad core smartphone in the country as of writing, making it worthy of its moniker "Quad Core ng Bayan".

"We are delighted to be able to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies on this product to deliver a superior mobile experience to consumers. With significant upgrades in hardware and software, the new Flare 2.0 is powerful yet still affordable," shared Mr. Lonson Alejandrino.

"In line with our commitment to making the benefits of technology accessible to all Filipinos, we are very proud of the Flare 2.0, which we have dubbed as 'Quad Core ng Bayan' (Quad Core of the People). We believe that advanced technology is for everyone and low-cost should not always mean low-capability," shared Ms. Poch Zenarosa, Marketing Head for Cherry Mobile.

In terms of design, the Flare 2.0 looks like a smaller version of the Cherry Mobile Omega 2.0 flagship release. It comes replete with metallic accent (silver paint with glossy coating) running down its sides and a glazed finish. I think it looks cute.

Specs-wise, CM Flare 2.0 runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system with a Quad Core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A5 CPU and runs graphics with an Adreno 203 GPU in its Qualcomm Snapdragon Play MSM8225Q chipset. The Dual SIM Dual Standby handset also sports a 4-inch IPS LCD WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 512 MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card slot, 5 MegaPixel autofocus main camera with dual LED flash, HD video recorder, VGA front cam, and FM radio. As for connectivity, the smartphone supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G.

The phone is powered by a removable 1,550 mAh Li-Ion battery pack which, according to our friends from CM, should be enough to deliver decent uptime. If you ask me, though, it could be a bit bigger. Then again, for a Php 3,999 Quad Core Android phone, you can't really complain too much about its shortcomings.

TP Friends, to wrap this up, let me share with you this exclusive quick interview video that I had with Mr. Lonson Alejandrino during Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0's launch. He explained to me CM's goal in releasing the handset as well as the key features of the phone.
