Samsung Galaxy A3 Philippines Price Php 16,990, Specs, Antutu Benchmark Score, Release Date

With official suggested retail price of Php 16,990, Samsung Galaxy A3 is poised to go head to head with affordable yet stellar flagship handsets by Chinese electronics companies like the Xiaomi Mi4 and Mi5, and Meizu MX4 Pro as well as great mid-level to high-end releases by other international players like the O+ Fab Elite 2.0, LG G3 Stylus, and Sony Xperia C3 among others.

And we're not even talking about powerhouse top-of-the-line smartphones by local players including Cherry Mobile Selfie, MyPhone Infinity, and Starmobile Knight X - which all cost less than this model but have similar if not better technical specifications.

Still, I'm sure the Korean Giant is confident that the freshly-released Samsung Galaxy A3 has enough drawing power and great selling points to give all of its terrifying competitors a big run for the buck.

As I've shared in my SGA5 post, there are three things that make Samsung new Galaxy A-Series really special compared to previous midrange releases by the company. First, they are clad in real metal and are very slim. Second, they have an improved 5 MegaPixel front facing camera for better looking selfies. And finally, they now feature Samsung's SuperAMOLED display, which was previously exclusive to the brand's flagship level handsets and very, very few mid-level models.

Of the three A-Series models launched in the Philippines by Samsung Mobile earlier this week, A3 is the smallest and is the most affordable -- and yet, apart from its display and battery size, its specs and features are largely similar to that of the A5. Samsung Galaxy A3 is equipped with a 4.5-inch 540 x 960 pixels qHD SuperAMOLED display, a 13 MegaPixel autofocus main camera with LED flash, Full HD video recorder, Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system with TouchWiz user interface, LTE connectivity support, and a non-removable 1,900 mAh battery pack.

Like the more expensive Samsung Galaxy A5, A3 is powered by a Quad Core Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset incorporating four ARM Cortex A53 clocked at 1.2 GHz and an Adreno 306 GPU. This SoC is complemented by 1.5GB of RAM plus 16GB of expandable storage and together, they give this phone an Antutu Benchmark Score in the area of 21,484. (Photos by Mobile Reviews)

So am I recommending this phone? Well, specs-wise, there obviously many other smartphones that are better than this one that you can purchase for less. (Some are already out in the market and some are just about to be released.) But I guess if you're a big Samsung fan and you're looking for a 'fairly affordable' LTE handset that's not too big and has the three key features I noted about, then by all means, get Samsung Galaxy A3.

Personally, I like that it's LTE enabled, has a CNC-processed aluminum frame, and has a 5 MegaPixel front cam since I love to take selfies. I wish it's a bit more affordable, though -- like, maybe around Php 3,000 cheaper. At Php 13,990, I think Samsung Galaxy A3 could be a hit. But that's just me. Let me know your thoughts about this interesting release, TP Friends.
