Unboxing the DJI Mic 3 (2TX + 1RX) instantly gives off that premium DJI vibe. The outer box comes in a clean white finish, with the product image prominently displayed on the cover. 

The illustration shows the charging case flipped open, neatly holding the two transmitters and one receiver, giving you a preview of what to expect inside. As someone who’s unboxed plenty of DJI gear before, I can say the presentation remains consistent: minimalistic, professional, and purposeful.

Lightweight and Intuitive

One of the things I immediately appreciated about the DJI Mic 3 is how lightweight and intuitive it is. 

As someone who’s constantly on the go - attending press events, shooting product reviews, or even recording spontaneous commentary for TikTok - I don’t have the luxury of carrying bulky equipment.

The Mic 3 transmitters clip on effortlessly without weighing me down or distracting from the frame. For solo shoots, that means I can focus on delivering my lines without fiddling with gear. For interviews or live coverage, my guests barely notice the mics once they’re clipped on, which helps them feel more comfortable on camera.

The interface also deserves praise. With its AMOLED touchscreen and simplified controls, adjusting settings is straightforward even in the middle of a shoot. Compared to the DJI Mic Mini, which required more setup work, the Mic 3 feels like a system designed to anticipate what a creator needs.

When looking at DJI’s wireless microphone ecosystem, the Mic 3 transmitter sits right between the Mic 2 and the Mic Mini in terms of size and feature set. It’s almost as compact as the Mini, making it easy to clip on for casual use or lightweight vlogging setups. 

However, DJI smartly gave it more versatility by adding a dedicated record button and enabling all the advanced features highlighted in this review, giving creators both simplicity and professional-grade performance in one.

Each receiver comes with 27.9 GB of internal storage for your main and back-up audio recordings.

Interestingly, DJI probably noticed that many content creators rarely used the lav mic jack on the Mic 2’s transmitters, so they designed the Mic 3 without it to keep the size down. 

Still, the Mic 2 transmitter holds its own because of those two extra ports: the 3.5mm input for a lavalier mic and the USB Type-C port that allows direct charging and data transfers. These are features that professionals and power users still consider essential, which explains why some may continue to choose the larger Mic 2 despite its bulk.

DJI Mic 3's receivers have eight metal plates at the rear, double that of Mic 2 and Mic Mini receivers. I believe these additional plates are for transferring files using the charging case.

To get audio files recorded in the DJI Mic 3 receivers' internal storage, put the receivers back in the charging case and then, connect the case to a Mac or PC via USB port and check the drives as shown in the image above.

In contrast, the Mic Mini transmitter remains the simplest and most lightweight option, perfect for those who want a plug-and-play solution without worrying about extra controls. Personally, I just wish the Mic 3 also had a USB Type-C port on its transmitters, which would have expanded their usage even without the charging case. 

But overall, when you stack them side by side, the Mic 3 strikes a strong balance: smaller and more portable than the Mic 2, yet far more capable than the Mini. 

The trade-off is clear: If you value compactness and DJI’s new-generation features, the Mic 3 is the way to go. If you absolutely need a lavalier input and direct USB-C access, the Mic 2 still has an edge.

Compact Storage

Another hallmark feature I love is the compact storage system. DJI has once again proven they understand creators who work on location.

The charging case doubles as a secure storage hub, ensuring everything stays together. No more scrambling through my bag to find a misplaced transmitter or worrying that a receiver got left behind at an event.

The case has these LED lights that reflect the amount of charge that's available.

This design choice might sound minor, but when you’re juggling camera gear, tripods, lights, and laptops - like I often do for TechPinas - these conveniences make all the difference. The Mic 3 slots right into my existing kit without adding clutter.

DJI Mic 2 vs Mic 3 Charging Case Comparison

The DJI Mic 3 charging case is noticeably smaller and more compact than the one that came with the Mic 2, which makes sense given the reduced size of its transmitters.

It’s easier to slip into a pocket or camera bag, which is a real plus for creators who are always on the move. But beyond portability, DJI refined the case design to better match the way content creators actually use their gear.

My favorite improvement is that I can now attach the windmuff on the Mic 3 transmitters and still be able to close the charging case securely. 

DJI Mic 2 case doesn't close if the windmuffs are installed on the receivers. In contrast, DJI Mic 3's case closes even with the windmuffs on.

This may sound like a small detail, but it saves time and hassle when setting up or packing away. In contrast, the Mic 2’s case doesn’t allow this; The windmuffs need to be removed before storing the transmitters, which is an extra step and a design limitation that directly affects user experience. With the Mic 3 case, DJI shows they are listening to feedback and fine-tuning even the little things that make a big difference.

4TX Bundle for Four-Person Interviews

One of the standout upgrades of the Mic 3 is the 4TX bundle, which supports up to four transmitters recording simultaneously.

This is a dream come true for me, who owns both the DJI Mic 2 and Mic Mini. In the past, when covering roundtable discussions or multi-guest interviews, I had to compromise with two mics. Now, I can give each participant their own transmitter, ensuring balanced, high-quality sound across the board.

Each voice can be recorded separately and with the receiver’s four-channel output, editing is smooth and precise. This feature makes the Mic 3 perfect not just for solo creators but also for small teams, podcast groups, or panel hosts.

It’s the kind of upgrade that signals DJI is listening to creators and giving us tools that match our ambitions.

Now, the Mic 3 ensures every voice gets its own channel, making post-production editing a breeze. I can fine-tune each speaker’s volume and EQ without worrying about overlapping dialogue. This is a clear standout feature that pushes the Mic 3 far beyond the Mic 2.

Wide Compatibility

One of the biggest strengths of the DJI Mic 3 is its ability to work seamlessly across different devices. For mobile creators, the system can easily connect to smartphones through the transmitter with the right adapter, whether you’re using USB Type-C or Lightning. 

I can use the DJI Mic 3 with my Xiaomi 15 smartphone.

This flexibility ensures that vloggers, podcasters, and social media content creators can achieve professional-grade audio without bulky setups.

DJI Mic 3 also works well with my Canon EOS M6 Mark ii.

For those who shoot with cameras, compatibility is just as impressive. I’ve tested it with my Canon mirrorless camera using the locking audio adapter, and the results were flawless. 

Meanwhile, Sony shooters can take advantage of the dedicated Series Hotshoe Camera Adapter for direct integration. This level of support makes the DJI Mic 3 a versatile companion not only for casual video work but also for professional filmmaking and production.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has a built in transmitter for the DJI Mic 3, supporting most of its advanced features via just Bluetooth connection.

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro also has a built-in transmitter for the DJI Mic 3 receivers.

DJI also makes sure its own ecosystem gets the best experience. My DJI Pocket 3 and Osmo Action 5 Pro both come with integrated transmitter support, removing the need for extra attachments and allowing users to maximize hallmark features such as the Low-Cut Filter and 32-bit Float Recording. 

This doesn’t just elevate the DJI Mic 3’s usefulness, it also enhances the overall attractiveness of the handheld cameras themselves. By combining crystal-clear audio with compact yet powerful video gear, DJI creates an all-in-one solution that’s hard to match. It’s this tight hardware-and-software integration that makes the ecosystem so appealing, encouraging creators to stick with DJI across their entire workflow. Unpredictable environments are part of the content creator’s life. One day I might be shooting a quiet voiceover at home; the next, I’m outdoors covering a busy launch event.

The Mic 3’s Adaptive Gain Control automatically balances volume across these situations. Unlike the Mic Mini, where I had to manually tweak levels, or even the Mic 2, which sometimes struggled with sudden noise changes, the Mic 3 keeps everything steady.

This is particularly helpful for short-form video platforms, where content is consumed quickly. Viewers don’t have patience for audio spikes or dips, so having consistent levels right out of the mic saves me time and keeps my content polished.

Three Voice Tone Presets & Two-Level Noise Cancelling

This feature speaks directly to my workflow as a content creator. The Mic 3 offers three voice tone presets and two levels of noise cancellation, giving me flexibility without needing extra equipment.

For example, during interviews, I prefer a warm vocal tone that makes conversations sound natural and engaging. For gadget reviews, I switch to a clearer, more neutral tone that highlights technical details. And when I’m recording in noisy environments - like crowded launch venues - the noise cancellation ensures my voice cuts through cleanly.

Compared to the Mic 2, which already had good noise handling, the Mic 3 takes it further with greater customization.

Dual-File 32-bit Float Internal Recording

One of the most professional features of the DJI Mic 3 is its dual-file 32-bit float internal recording, which essentially gives you a built-in safety net for critical shoots. This system saves two audio files simultaneously: a standard backup with lower dynamic range and a high-headroom 32-bit float file. The “dual-file” part refers to these two versions being stored, while the “dual” in 32-bit float comes from the use of two Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) working together—one optimized for high-gain and the other for low-gain signals.

In real-world terms, imagine covering a major smartphone launch in Manila. The room suddenly erupts in applause, and the audio peaks. With traditional recording, that clip might be ruined. But with 32-bit float, I can easily recover the audio in post-production without losing quality or introducing distortion. For me, it means peace of mind during once-in-a-lifetime shoots where I can’t ask people to repeat themselves, and maximum flexibility for post no matter how unpredictable the sound environment gets.
