OnePlus 6T Philippines Price and Release Date Guesstimate, Full Specs, Unique Features

This post aims to collate all relevant information about the OnePlus 6T 2018 flagship killer. Trust that I'll update this blog entry every time I get fresh updates about the availability of this new handset here in the Philippines.

Aside from Huawei Mate 20 Pro, another powerful Android smartphone is scheduled to be officially unveiled within the third week of 2018.

The OnePlus 6T is the latest iteration to the Chinese brand's popular Flagship Killer handset line and will officially supersede the best-selling and very successful OnePlus 6 by having a handful of updated features.

Update as of November 3, 2018: I've just gotten confirmation from Mr. Charles Paw of Digits Trading Corporation - the parent company of Digital Walker - that they will indeed bring OnePlus 6T to the Philippines within November 2018. The target date is within the second week of the month. No word yet on the exact official suggested retail price of the base model. Stay tuned for updates.

In terms of construction and overall looks, OnePlus 6T is more or less identical to its predecessor. It has the same glass-metal-glass design language with rounded sides and corners. Also, there's still a protruding oblong camera module at the back housing a Dual Rear Camera module.

However, OnePlus 6T has several unique physical qualities compared to the OnePlus 6 -- including the smaller notch - reminiscent of what we see on the Vivo V11 and OPPO F9, the lack of a fingerprint scanner at the back, and the removed 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom of the device.

One of the stand-out features of this model can be found on its 6.41-inch FullHD+ AMOLED display, which is ever slightly larger that the screen of OnePlus 6. You see, this panel has an integrated Fingerprint Scanner -- just like what's on the Vivo X21 Flagship Smartphone and Vivo V11 Hero Midrange Model.

This fast and accurate sensor allows the user to quickly and conveniently unlock the device while holding it or while it is placed on a table using either the thumb or a pointer finger.

OnePlus 6T's cameras are practically similar to that of OnePlus 6. However, the newer model does have improved low light imaging performance and better auto-HDR feature.

At the back, you will get the same 16MP f/1.7 primary shooter plus a 20MP secondary cam, which enables portrait Bokeh effect. What's great about this new module is that it now has Nightscape Mode that allows you to take clearer and more brilliant shots even in low light conditions.

For those who love to take selfie photos and videos, OnePlus 6T has a 16 MegaPixel front-facing camera with Beautification software, Auto-HDR, and Gyro-EIS for smooth clips even if you recorded them while walking.

Video content creators will surely appreciate this phone's 4K 30 and 60 fps recorder at the back that can also shoot Slo-Mo FullHD clips at 240fps. For Youtube vloggers, the front cam's 1080p 30fps video recorder with stabilization should prove as an essential tool.

Interestingly enough, in terms of internal hardware, OnePlus 6T is one and the same as the OnePlus 6. This new release runs its Android-9.0-Pie-based Oxygen OS 9.0 interface with a 10nm Flagship-Level Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor that's complemented by up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage that can be expanded using the hybrid nanoSIM slot that can also take in a microSD card.

One thing I don't like about this handset is that it no longer has a 3.5mm audio jack, which remains present on the OnePlus 6. According to 'insiders', OnePlus did this to free-up space for the larger 3,700 mAh Li-Po battery; They probably thought that wireless earphones are starting to become more widely available and the user an always use a USB Type C adapter for wired headphones. Fair enough -- but still, for me, OnePlus 6T would have been far more attractive if it still had a 3.5mm audio jack.

Anyway, despite its seeming weaknesses, OnePlus 6T will most likely be another winner and best-seller for the company when it gets released by the end of October 2018 in many key markets around the world. Why, you ask? Well, it's all about the 'great value for money' proposition of the OnePlus series, which remains very attractive to consumers.

Here in the Philippines, Digital Walker is the exclusive and official distribution partner of OnePlus. As of writing, Digits Trading - the company behind Digital Walker - has yet to release official pricing and availability details for the OnePlus 6T Mirror Black and Midnight Black Versions. Personally, though, I am expecting the company to make this smartphone available to Pinoy consumers starting in November 2018 (hopefully, earlier) and I'm putting my price guesstimate for this device at around PHP 35,000 to PHP 37,000.
