On April 1, 2020, T-Mobile successfully acquired Sprint Corp. for a total of $26.5 billion. This merger led to a temporary decrease in the number of major wireless providers in the United States. As part of the agreement, T-Mobile gained 33.84 million postpaid subscribers from Sprint, which added to their existing 47 million postpaid wireless subscribers. Additionally, DISH Network Corporation obtained Sprint's prepaid mobile business, Boost Mobile. This resulted in a total of four major wireless providers in the market, satisfying the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and ensuring continued competition.

In terms of market capitalization, T-Mobile stands as the largest telecommunications company in the United States as of 2023. It has a market capitalization of $180.67 billion, which is the highest among all U.S. telecommunications companies.
