OPPO F5 Youth Philippines Price, Specs, Actual Photos of Gold and Black Variants

The recently launched OPPO F5 Youth offers some of the key features of its more expensive sibling - the OPPO F5 - at a more affordable price point.

As such it is a good choice for students and young professionals who are planning to get an offering by the Chinese handset maker this Yuletide season or New Year but aren't keen on spending too much on a new device.

The first characteristic that this model shares with the OPPO F5 is its design identity.

As you can see in these shots - taken by my younger brother at this phone's launch in SM MegaMall last November 25, 2017 (which I missed as I wasn't feeling well) - OPPO F5 Youth has a "rectangle with rounded corners" footprint as well as a button-less face that's almost entirely dedicated to the 6-inch Full HD+ IPS display that also has rounded corners.

This attractive display set-up is one of the main selling points of OPPO F5 and it's nice to see that the company has decided to put it on a more wallet-friendly model.

The handset's unibody shell is crafted from polycarbonate and is available in two colors, namely, Gold and White. Both of which have a metallic sheen, which helps give the device an air of elegance and sophistication.

Frankly, the paint job is so good that it's hard to tell whether the body is made of plastic or real metal.

The back plate comes replete with a shiny OPPO logo near the middle as well as an oblong Fingerprint Scanner that adds an additional layer of security for the user all while serving as one of the distinguishing design elements of the product.

For imaging, OPPO F5 Youth has a 13 MegaPixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus, f/2.2 aperture, and LED flash. While it's not the best shooter that you can get on a 2017 smartphone, it's certainly good enough to deliver clear shots especially when there's ample ambient light.

The 16 MegaPixel f/2.0 front-cam performs well even in low light and benefits from OPPO's AI Beautification software that supposedly ensures that your selfies will still look like you even after the application of beauty effects.

You can read more about OPPO's AI Beauty Technology in our OPPO F5 feature.

In comparison, the regular OPPO F5 has a 16 MP f/1.8 PDAF rear camera plus a 20 MegaPixel f/2.0 front cam, which also has the same advanced beautification software.

Inside, the OPPO F5 Youth runs its ColorOS customized Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with a 2.3 GHz Octa Core MediaTek MT6763T processor, has 3GB of RAM, and comes with 32GB of onboard storage that can be augmented using the dedicated microSD card slot.

Amazingly, this ARM Cortex A53 and Mali-G71 based chipset is also what powers the OPPO F5 -- so gaming and graphics performance should be more or less the same on this less pricey version.

OPPO F5's 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM give it clear superiority in terms of multitasking and having more space for content -- especially photos and videos.

Now, as for connectivity options and ports, this Dual SIM Dual Standby device supports the usual WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, and 4G LTE -- and sports a microUSB 2.0 port along with a 3.5mm combo jack.

Another cool and useful feature that the OPPO F5 Youth borrows from the OPPO F5 is Facial Unlock using the front-facing camera.

The user simply has to register his face in the phone's security settings and he or she can already unlock the handset just by looking at the front-facing camera -- no need to swipe a finger on the screen or to type in a code. I've tried this myself and I find it very accurate and fast.
