Realme 6 Philippines Price Starts at PHP 11,990 : Unboxing and Actual Unit Photos, Initial Impressions

As promised over the past few days, realme Philippines has just officially announced their two new 2020 Android smartphone models, the realme 6 and the realme 6 Pro.

Of the two, the realme 6 is the more affordable model with official suggested retail price starting at only PHP 11,990 for the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM version.

Positioned as a Gaming Beast in the sub-PHP 12,000 price bracket, the realme 6 allows Pinoys consumers to experience a number of innovative features without spending too much money.

According to realme Philippines' Vice-President for Marketing, Ms. Austine Huang, "The new realme 6 is engineered to elevate user experience in key aspects of gaming, performance and style. With the launch of the device, we hope to empower more Filipinos to dabble in the growing mobile gaming industry."

Both the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM and the 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM versions of realme 6 will be officially available at Lazada Philippines starting today, May 27, 2020.

For those who are planning to purchase this device, allow me to share with you these unboxing and actual unit photos.

The packaging is similar to that of the Realme 6i and 6 Pro. It's just a yellow-orange box with the name of the model printed on top and the four main selling points clearly listed down at the bottom.

The key features of realme 6 include its 90Hz Smooth Display with In-Display Selfie Camera, 30W Flash Charge Support for its Large 4,300 mAh Battery Pack, 64MP Quad Camera Module with Ultra-Wide Lens, and MediaTek Helio G90T high-end processor.

Lifting the lid, we are greeted by a note from the company printed on the paper sleeve containing documentation: "Hey, welcome to realme Family" Opening it, we see another message: "Let's embrace a new journey"

Documentation includes the Important Information Guide that also contains the Warranty Certificate for the device.

I like that the User Manual comes in the form of this Quick Guide booklet, which gives us concise and straight-forward information about the realme 6. I suggest that you give it a glance to get a good overview about your new smartphone after you buy it.

Just like realme 6i and realme 6 Pro, realme 6 already comes with a free soft gel case so you won't have to buy one separate. I really appreciate this move by realme since it gives more to consumers, especially in these times.

This is the pin for ejecting the SIM card tray that has two slots for nanoSIM cards and one slot for a microSD card.

As I've said, one of the key features of the realme6 is its 30W Flash Charge support that lets you charge the device from 0% to 100% in less than an hour. However, you'd have to use the charger and USB Type C to USB cable provided in the retail package to enjoy that.

Why? Well, this travel charger supports up to 6A output, which is one of the things that are required to enable the VOOC 4.0 charging innovation.

Finally, this the unit itself. What I have here is the Comet Blue version, which I will show you more in a bit.

I believe my review unit is just the same as the official retail unit that realme is offering in the Philippine market. It contains the handset, the travel charger, the USB Type C charging cord, the metal pin, Quick User Guide, Important Information Guide with Warranty Card, and the Soft Gel case.

Now, join me as I take a closer look at my realme 6 unit and give a rundown of its stellar technical specifications.

As you can see, the model flaunts an ultra-elegant design identity that's highlighted by a high-gloss finish and a gradient look on the backplate.

I think realme 6's metallic, high-impact look exudes an air of effortless sophistication, which most consumers will definitely find attractive.

For me, this is a handsome smartphone that you won't be shy to flaunt in a high-end restaurant or cafe with a date or to put on the table when you are in a meeting with your business partners.

Realme 6's face features a large 6.5-inch FullHD+ IPS LCD display with extremely slim bezels and a thin chin, giving the phone a high 84.1% Screen-to-Body Ratio.

Protected by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel and having a small punch hole in the upper left corner housing the selfie camera, this display also features an incredible 90Hz Refresh Rate that gives you buttery smooth transitions and effects when navigating the interface. If you play games that support ultra-high-frame-rate, you will appreciate turning on that setting on a display like this.

Flipping the phone around, we see the power button lined with an optical fingerprint scanner on the right side. I like this placement of the sensor since it allows me to turn on the display and unlock the interface with just one action.

On the left side, we have the tray for the SIM and microSD cards neatly tucked in a slot as well as the volume up and down buttons.

Unlike the realme 6 Pro, the realme 6 lacks a microphone pinhole on its top panel.

At the bottom or rear, you will find the loudspeaker, the USB Type C port for charging the phone and connecting it to a computer, the microphone, and the 3.5mm audio jack.

Great for budding mobile photographers, realme 6 has a Quad Rear Camera Set-up that's made up of the following shooters:

1. 64 MegaPixels, f/1.8 Aperture, 26mm, 1/1.72" Sensor Size, 0.8µm Pixel Size, Phase Detection AutoFocus PDAF, LED

This primary camera is similar to that of main shooter of the more expensive realme 6 Pro, which is a real treat in this price point. With a large sensor, wide aperture, and high resolution, this is best for daily point-and-point photography in various lighting conditions, even when ambient light is rather dim.

2. 8 MegaPixels, f/2.3, 13mm Ultra-Wide Lens, 1/4.0", 1.12µm

Great for capturing scale, this camera with an ultra-wide-lens is ideal for landscape or architectural photography. If you have a big family or if you are the designated cameraman in your office, I'm sure you will use this shooter a lot for taking group photos.

3. 2 MegaPixels, f/2.4, Macro, 1/5.0", 1.75µm

Do you love taking photos of insects, small flowers, or intricate details on objects? I bet you will appreciate having this macro or close-up camera at your disposal.

4. Black and White Portrait Lens

This camera gives you beautiful black and white portraits of your loved ones with beautiful background blur. You may also use it for taking monochrome photos of other subjects with bokeh effect.

In front, like the realme 6i, realme 6 sports a 16 MegaPixel f/2.0 front camera that's powered by the company's own AI beautification software that gives you selfies that are instantly ready for sharing on social media. What's different, though, is that it's housed in a punch hole instead of a familiar notch.

For Youtubers, TikTokers, or any video content creator, the realme 6's main camera at the back can shoot videos up to 4K 30fps while the ultra-wide-angle camera can record up to FullHD clips. The front-cam likewise can shoot 1080p videos at 30 frames per second.

Inside its sleek shell, realme 6 runs its realme UI skinned Android 10 operating system with the new 12nm 2.05 GHz Octa-Core MT6785 Helio G90T from MediaTek. With an integrated Mali-G76 MC4 GPU, this chipset gives the realme 6 an Antutu Benchmark Score in the range of 279,000 to 280,000, which means that its performance is comparable to that of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Huawei Kirin 810.

Personally, I expect realme to further optimize the performance of this model for gaming within the next few days. After all, this company is known for constantly improving their released handsets through regular software updates.

As I've said, the processor is complemented by either 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of fast UFS 2.1 of storage that can easily be augmented using the dedicated microSD card -- so you won't have to sacrifice Dual SIM capability just to get more space for heavy games and 4K videos.

For users who hate always carrying a powerbank in their bag or pocket, you will love realme 6's massive 4,300 mAh Li-Po battery that can easily deliver a whole day of uptime with regular use. What's even cooler is that this pack can be charged fully in just 55 minutes -- thanks to VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge innovation that comes with this model.

This means more time using the phone for taking photos and videos or for playing games like Mobile Legends Bang Bang and less time having to plug it to an electrical outlet.

Of the two variants that are available, I personally recommend the 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM version that goes for only PHP 13,990. Why? Well, these days, many of us tend to run so many applications at once on our smartphones and I know that the 8GB of RAM will definitely give you a smoother multitasking experience if you're a heavy mobile user too. Oh, and personally, I'm in love with this Comet Blue version -- so I suggest you check it out.

Here's a cool treat for the early birds who will buy this smartphone at realme Philippines' official online store in LazadaPH upon launch: You will get PHP 500 price cut on both variants, bringing the price down to just PHP 11,490 for the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM version and PHP 13,490 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM model. So what are you waiting for? Move fast and get it now!
