Hot on the heels of the market launch of Starmobile Knight X, the most powerful Pinoy smartphone during the time of its announcement and release, the Starmobile Knight Vision is just as much of a landmark release as it is the very first first Android smartphone by a Filipino handset maker that comes with both Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for its main camera and built-in Digital TV (DTV) receiver.

“We are proud to introduce the Knight Vision as we believe that DTV technology presents the biggest change in TV viewing ever,” said Starmobile Product Development Head, Mr. Michael Chen.

"Mobile DTV is bigger than the introduction of color and HD broadcast combined. [...] The Knight Vision can change the way modern Filipinos enjoy TV forever - from a ‘fixed’ activity where they have to stay where the television set is located such as the living room or bedroom - TV is now a truly ‘mobile’ experience where they are free to watch together or individually wherever and whenever they please. No more fighting over the remote control!" he added.

Digital TV vs. Analog TV : What's the Difference?

According to Starmobile, unlike regular Analog TV broadcasts (or the free TV broadcast that we grew up watching), DTV uses digital TV signals to deliver clean and crisp images and audio that's more or less comparable to that of cable TV. With DTV, there is no horrible static or ghost feedback, thus resulting in crystal clear audio and pictures.

Additionally, our National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has mandated that all Philippine TV stations make the shift to DTV broadcast within the next 3 to 5 years. As of today, the two biggest networks, ABS-CBN and GMA, have begun offering their programs via DTV for free. And what's great is that there's now a phone like Starmobile Knight Vision that's compatible with the NTC’s DTV standard.

Like many of you guys, I love watching TV. I think it started from my fascination with cartoons as a kid; My favorite ones then were Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light, Transformers, X-Men, Thunder Cats, and He-Man. I also watched tagalized cartoons like Ghost Fighter, Naruto, Zenki, Cedie, Flame of Recca, Princess Sarah, A Dog of Flanders, among many many others. As I grew older, I followed series like Doogie Howser M.D, 24, and now, The Walking Dead. And yes, I won't be shy to admit that I also watched sappy, rags-to-riches teleseryes on ABS-CBN, GMA7, and even RPN9 growing up.

These days, however, it's hard for me to find time to watch TV because of my schedule. Also, while I can do it on the go or in between events and meeting, the TV phones that I have in my gadget collection but don't really have the technical specifications that I need for work and I don't want to bring too many smartphones with me when I'm out and about.

That's what I'm greatly looking forward to having the Starmobile Knight Vision in my 2015 device line-up because I know that it can give me the chance to watch Digital TV on the road for free to help me relax in between meetings while allowing me to accomplish my tasks flawlessly with its great specs and to take good photos during events. I'd say this type of phone is ideal for someone like me.

Speaking of photos, Starmobile Knight Vision's camera features Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) - thanks to a floating lens module that moves to compensate for hand movement while snapping shots. This results in crisp and clear photos and steady videos even when you take them while your hands are slightly shaking. If you remember, this imaging technology is made popular by the legendary Finnish company, Nokia, through their epic flagship Lumia releases Nokia Lumia 1020 and 920.

Let's talk about specs. The Knight Vision is equipped with a 5.5 inch HD IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass 3 touchscreen, 13 MegaPixels AutoFocus Quick Capture camera with Sony IMX Exmor RS sensor, OIS, and LED flash, 8 MegaPixel front cam with Sony sensor, Full HD video recorder, 3G HSPA+ support, Dual SIM Dual Standby capability, and a 2,450 mAh Li-Ion battery delivering 360 hours of standby, 15 hours of talk time, and 4 hours of D-TV viewing. In terms of innards, the handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat OS with a 1.3 GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A7 and 500 MHz Mali-400 MP2 GPU based MediaTek MT6582 chipset, has 2 GB of RAM, and comes with 16 GB of expandable storage. All of these definitely make the Knight Vision worthy of being called a flagship release.

Now, as for the phone's design, it doesn't hurt that it also looks attractive. The device features a thick metallic side frame that gives it an air of elegance and corporate sophistication. I definitely won't be shy to put this on the table during my corporate round-table discussions.
