Starmobile Knight X Price and Release Date Guesstimate, Complete Specs, Antutu Benchmark Score, Sample Camera Shots

Yesterday, I graced Starmobile's invitation for the formal unveiling of their new smartphones that are slated for release next month, December 2014. The launch was held at the Rizal Ballroom of the Shangrila Hotel in Makati City.

One of the devices that were introduced was the Starmobile Knight X, which will serve as the company's new flagship smartphone moving forward -- perhaps until Q1 of 2015.

Starmobile Knight X

Already being called the 'most powerful smartphone by a Pinoy company' as of writing, the Knight X comes replete with the best innards and technical specifications that Starmobile has ever put on a handset.

“The Knight X is the next step for us in our mission to deliver high-quality, yet still competitively-priced devices to Filipinos. This is truly a smartphone that is inspired by and is made for the next generation Pinoy,” shared Starmobile Vice Chairman and Head of Product Development Mr. Michael Chen.

The follow-up to the wildly successful Starmobile Knight from 2013, the 2014 X-version represents a massive jump not only in terms of specs but also when it comes to build quality and design.

For one, the fresh release flaunts lush real metal and metallic accents giving it an air of luxury and corporate sophistication as well as a reassuring heft. The back plate is textured so it attracts less grime and fingerprints and also increases traction between the hand and the phone resulting in less chance of accidental slippage.

In terms of features, Starmobile Knight X is equipped with a massive 5.5 inch Full HD IPS display underneath scratch-resistant glass touchscreen (which effectively puts it in the full-fledged phablet category), a 13 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash and Sony IMX135 sensor with 5-piece lens that should be able to deliver above average quality photos even in low light conditions, a 5 MegaPixel front cam with BSI for bright and brilliant selfies, and Full HD video recorder with 4K video playback support.

As for connectivity, the Knight X sports multi-mode 4G LTE that can work across 15 frequencies around the globe, including China. And when paired with a largest-in-class 3,350mAh battery (40% larger in terms of capacity compared to its competitors) then this certified ‘world phone’ can connect to the latest data and voice services for hours on end.

There are truly many things about Starmobile Knight X that make it worthy of being called a 'flagship' - including its Dual SIM Dual Standby Dual LTE switching capability - but for me, what's most attractive about this handset is its powerful MediaTek MT6595M chipset (similar to that of Lenovo Vibe X2), which is dubbed by Starmobile as a 'Super Octa Core' SoC.

This monstrous chip - incorporating four 2 GHz ARM Cortex A17 cores, four ARM Cortex A7 CPUs, and 450 MHz IMG Rogue G6200 GPU - paired with 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage give the Knight X a very high Antutu Benchmark Score in the area of 43,154, during Starmobile's internal testing of a prototype unit. Such high mark promises ultra-smooth gaming performance and top-notch touch experience on the device.

A Smartphone by a Local Brand That Pinoys Can Take Pride In

TP Friends, here are some of the key features and main selling points of Starmobile Knight X:

During my conversation with Mr. Joey Uy - CEO of Starmobile - after the event, he told me that the company did its best to come up with a smartphone that doesn't only have the best technical specifications but also the most fine-tuned software they could have given it. "[For the camera calibration, for example, it's on the numerical level. We revise it many times until we get the tones that we know will appeal to most Filipinos. It's a meticulous process,]" he shared. And the Starmobile Knight X is the very culmination of everything that Starmobile has worked so hard for - in terms of hardware and software - within the past several months.

TP Friends, Starmobile Knight X will most likely hit store shelves by December 2014 and it will be out in just one color: Black. Our friends from the Pinoy electronics company didn't really disclose the exact suggested retail price of the handset during the event but they did tell me that it will definitely cost less than Php 20,000. Personally, my price guesstimate for it is in the area of Php 17,000 to Php 18,000; Here's to hoping it will be more affordable than that so more Pinoys can enjoy this amazing release.
