Canon G7X Mark III Price is $749 USD, Specs Include 3.5mm Mic Input and USB Type C Port

One of the first things I do after waking up around noontime each day is to open Youtube and check if my favorite tech video content creators uploaded new clips.

Earlier today, I was absolutely delighted with what Gordon Laing shared on his channel, which is one of my faves for everything camera and photography.

A few hours ago, he was given a chance to play with an actual Canon Powershot G7X Mark III, which is the follow-up to one of the best and most popular vlogging cameras of the past five years, the G7X Mark II - which is one of my go-to cameras along with the Canon EOS M6 and the Powershot G3X.

The Mark III looks almost identical to its predecessor but it does come with important and useful new features, which Mark II owners - like me - will definitely appreciate.

One of my gripes about the Mark II is that it doesn't have a microphone input, which results in terrible audio when I'm shooting my vlogs in noisy environments. If I wanted cleaner sound from it, I would have to use a separate microphone set-up, which is downright cumbersome and inconvenient.

That's why I was so happy when I saw in Gordon's video that the Mark III finally has a 3.5 mm audio jack! I couldn't believe that Canon gave us exactly what we asked for -- but heck, it's real!

In fact, Canon Powershot G7X Mark III is officially the first ever compact camera with 1-sensor to have a built-in microphone port! Sweet! I'm sure this feature will effectively address many of the sound problems that I have suffered on the Mark II.

Of course, the the Mark III still has that beloved flip-up screen at the back, which is a must-have for vloggers (or even those love taking selfies and groufies with their loved ones.) As a one-man-team, I also find this particularly useful when I'm shooting interviews or talking videos during and after tech events here in the Philippines.

As an upgrade to the microUSB 2.0 port of the Mark II, the Mark III has a USB Type C port that can be used for charging and for transferring photos and videos to a laptop, desktop, or iPad. As I've previously shared, USB Type C is a lot faster than microUSB 2.0 in performing both tasks.

One amazing thing that I noticed in the photos and videos of the actual Canon G7X Mark III is its new on-board microphone design! It's now bigger and pressed deeper into the shell of the device, which should make it less likely for the user to cover it with his or her finger while shooting vlogs and should minimize wind noise when the user is out and about.

Under the hood, Canon Powershot G7X Mark III features an upgraded 20.1 megapixel 1.0-inch stacked CMOS sensor along with the new Canon's DIGIC 8 processor, which work together to deliver useful enhancements including full resolution 20 frames-per-second bursts in high speed shooting.

On top of all that, whereas the Mark II could only shoot videos up to FullHD 60fps, this model can record uncroped 4K 30fps and 1080p 120 fps clips! It even supports HDR video capture.

What's even cooler is that Mark III can also be used for Youtube Livestreaming via WiFi so you can do an entire show or vlog for your audience on the site using this camera in real-time.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in videos and articles about this model, though, is Dual Pixel AutoFocus, which has proven to be one of the strengths of Canon's more recent high-end cameras. Many say that this model only has Contast Detection AF, which is deemed inferior to Dual Pixel. Why, Canon?! Why?! Off hand, this is a bit of a downer for me -- but I sure hope that the new sensor and processor can make up for this shortcoming.

No word yet from Canon Philippines on the formal release date of this G7X Mark III in our country. Many sources, however, have disclosed that the official suggested retail price of this model is around $749 USD or PHP 38,450 with current conversion and before taxes. As for the launch date, insiders say that it should be out globally come August 2019.
