Nokia Lumia 730 Dual SIM Price, Specs, Release Date : Three Reasons Why I Like It

Of the three smartphones that Nokia announced at IFA 2014 in Berlin last September 4, 2014, Nokia Lumia 730 Dual SIM is my favorite.

And I like it because of three reasons:

1. It looks hip and cute.
2. It gives great value for your money.
3. It ships with Nokia Lumia Denim update and bears the legendary strengths of Nokia products.

Simple Yet Interesting Design

Although it doesn't have a metal enclosure, Nokia Lumia 730 Dual SIM nonetheless flaunts a sleek and svelte monoblock polycarbonate shell - similar to that of Nokia Lumia 920 and 1020 - that's both lightweight and tough at the same time. As you can see in these photos, the handset doesn't need unnecessary embellishments and accents because the shell is designed and crafted well-enough to make it eye-catching and unique.

An Affordable Smartphone with Decent Specs and a Great Selfie Camera

Priced at only 199 Euros or roughly Php 11,380 with current conversion and before taxes, the device (that's surprisingly more affordable than its predecessor - the low-light imaging powerhouse Nokia Lumia 720 - which entered the market with SRP of Php 13,250 last March 2013) already comes with technical specifications and features that - together - can provide users with an enjoyable mobile experience.

You get a 4.7 HD AMOLED display, a 6.7 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics at the back, dual Full HD video recorders, 3G HSPA+ support, and a removable 2,220 mAh Li-Ion battery pack. As for its innards, Nokia Lumia 730 runs Windows Phone 8.1 operating system with a Quad Core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU based Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, handles multitasking with 1 GB of RAM, and has 8 GB of storage that's easily expandable up to 128 GB via the phone's microSD card slot. Not bad, right?

But - get this - on top of all that, the device has Dual SIM Dual Standby capability - so you can stay connected on two networks at the same time - and has a 5 MegaPixel front facing camera with wide-angle lens that's specifically made for taking clear and crisp selfies and groufies with your friends. For me, that's what you call 'value for money'.

And as if all that's not enough: Nokia Lumia 730 ships with free, three-month Skype Worldwide Unlimited subscription making it easier than ever to have an international voice call with friends and family on their mobile and landline phones, right from your handset. Additionally, with the integration of one-tap Skype video call access during voice calls, users can have even more ways to share their stories regardless of where they are.

Introducing Nokia Lumia Denim Firmware Update

Not your typical run-of-the-mill Windows Phone handset, Nokia Lumia 730 - just like its siblings Nokia Lumia 830 and Nokia Lumia 735 - combines the best of Redmond Giant's mobile operating system and the Finnish company's unique software enhancements via the latest Lumia Denim upgrade.

According to Microsoft, Lumia Denim combines the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update with exclusive experiences for Lumia smartphones. This software upgrade also cements Microsoft’s leadership in imaging with the introduction of unique innovations in Lumia Camera application that make the camera module work faster and more intuitively. Coming as part of the Lumia Denim update to Lumia 930, Lumia Icon and Lumia 1520, Lumia Camera offers the following:

Speed: Never miss a moment with Lumia Camera and its fast camera startup and capture speeds. Take numerous photos with just milliseconds between shots.

High definition: Using Moment Capture, a long press of the camera button within the app automatically starts 4K-quality video recording at 24 frames per second (for supported models). Each frame is of high image quality at 8.3 megapixels, allowing every single video frame to be selected and saved as a still image.

Intuitiveness: Get the best shot every time with Rich Capture, which simplifies picture-taking with auto HDR and Dynamic Flash. With Rich Capture, people can avoid the hassle of adjusting camera settings; they can shoot first and edit and select the perfect shot later.

Quality: Capture high-quality smartphone images in low light with the latest-generation imaging algorithms.

Nokia Lumia 730 Dual SIM
Nokia Lumia 730 Dual SIM will begin shipping globally this month, September 2014. I'm personally expecting it to land in the Philippines within the last week of September or the first week of October.

As a gadget fan, I've been fortunate to own many, many Nokia cellphones and smartphones through the years, including Nokia 5110, Nokia 3210, Nokia 3110, Nokia 3220, Nokia N900, Nokia N8, Nokia N9, Nokia Lumia 920, and Nokia Lumia 1020 - that I still use to take photos and record videos for my blog, making it one of my best gadget purchases ever - among others. And if there's one thing I can tell you about Nokia releases, they're quite literally tough as nails as they are crafted for sheer longevity.

Update as of October 31, 2014: Nokia Lumia 730 has just been formally released in the Philippines. It's official SRP is Php 11,990, which is just a tad higher than our TP Guesstimate from a month back.
