New Nokia 6 2018 Version, Arriving in the Philippines Soon?

In 2017, the Nokia 6 by HMD Global became one of the company's best-selling Android smartphone models largely because it combined great looks with stellar technical specifications and decent imaging performance -- all while donning a fairly affordable midrange price tag.

This year, I'm sure "The New Home of Nokia Phones" is hoping that the 2018 refresh of the said release will enjoy the same level of success -- if not better.

Checking out the looks of The New Nokia 6 as well as it set of specs, I think it has the chops to make it big, provided HMD prices very competitively.

On April 5, 2018, I received an invitation from our friends at HMD Philippines for the opening of their NewSeum (where they will showcase new and legacy Nokia phones) as well as the launch of their freshest set of Android smartphones in our country; The event will be held on April 13 in an exclusive venue in Makati City.

Although they didn't disclose which specific models will be unveiled at the gathering, I have a strong feeling that Nokia 6 2018 will be one of them.

Why, you ask? Well, the 3GB RAM version of this handset was launched in India just yesterday - April 6 - with a price tag of 16,999 Rupees (with 2,000 Rupees cashback offer in some stores). Looking back at the release details of HMD Global's phones in 2017, it appears that the company sees the Philippines and India as more or less identical markets.

I would like to give credit to PhoneArena on Youtube for images of the New Nokia 6 that I used in this blog post.

For those who are seeing this device for the first time, The New Nokia 6 looks a lot like its predecessor from last year. But what's great about it is that it now has a more powerful 14nm 2.2GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor and enhanced imaging performance -- thanks to its 16MP f/2.0 rear camera's ZEISS lens.

The New Nokia 6's svelte exterior is crafted from Two-Tone Anodized Series 6000 Aluminum and 2.5D Curved Corning Gorilla Glass

Other key features of this durable and elegant smartphone include its 5.5-inch FullHD IPS display, 8 MegaPixel f/2.0 front cam for selfies, 4K 30fps video recorder, USB Type C port, non-removable 3,000 mAh Li-Ion battery pack, microSD card memory expansion via secondary nanoSIM slot, vanilla Android 8.0 Oreo operating system right out of the box, Android One program feature-set (including guaranteed firmware upgrades for a limited period), Dual SIM Dual Standby capability, and 4G LTE support.

So how much will it be if and when it becomes available in the Philippines within the next few weeks? My price guesstimate for the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM version is around Php 13,500 to Php 14,000, which is based on the phone's SRP upon launch in India. Here's to hoping, though, that the official price by HMD Philippines would be a lot more affordable than that. Kindly stay tuned for updates!
