GoPro MISSION 1 Series
GoPro redefines compact filmmaking with the rugged, high-performance MISSION 1 Series built for any creative mission.

  • Ultra Compact Power: A new class of cinema cameras packs 8K recording, pro-level features, and rugged durability into an ultra-portable body built for creators on the move.
  • Next Gen Imaging: The combination of a 50MP 1-inch sensor and GP3 processor delivers outstanding low-light performance, high dynamic range, and advanced AI-driven image processing.
  • Creator Ready Ecosystem: A full lineup of accessories including wireless audio, grips, batteries, and media modules expands the system into a complete filmmaking toolkit.

There’s a noticeable shift happening in the world of compact cameras, and GoPro MISSION 1 Series makes it clear that the brand is aiming far beyond action cams this time. With this new lineup, GoPro is stepping confidently into the cinema camera space, delivering professional-grade imaging tools in bodies that are surprisingly small, lightweight, and built to survive just about anything.

Designed for filmmakers, pro content creators, and even aspiring enthusiasts, the MISSION 1 Series introduces a trio of devices that promise high-end performance without the usual bulk and complexity associated with cinema gear. The stellar set of features of this new line of action cameras from the company, especially their large 1-inch sensor, clearly proves that GoPro is back!

Built for Serious Creators

At the heart of the all-new GoPro MISSION 1 Series is a newly developed 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor paired with company’s equally new GP3 processor. This combination is engineered to deliver superior image quality across different shooting conditions, particularly in low light where compact cameras often struggle.

The sensor features larger pixels and advanced Quad Bayer technology, allowing it to capture more light and preserve detail in both shadows and highlights. With up to 14 stops of dynamic range, users can expect footage that looks more natural, balanced, and cinematic straight out of the camera.

High Resolution, High Frame Rates

One of the biggest highlights of the MISSION 1 Series is its impressive video capabilities. The flagship models support 8K video recording at up to 60 frames per second, while also enabling ultra-slow-motion capture with 4K at 240fps and even 1080p at up to 960fps in burst mode.

Open Gate recording is another major feature, allowing creators to capture full-sensor footage in a 4:3 aspect ratio. This provides greater flexibility during editing, especially for those producing content across multiple platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

Designed to Handle Any Environment

True to GoPro’s DNA, durability remains a core focus. The MISSION 1 and MISSION 1 PRO models are waterproof up to 20 meters without the need for additional housing, making them ideal for underwater shoots and extreme conditions.

The cameras also feature redesigned controls with larger buttons for easier operation, even when wearing gloves. A brighter and larger OLED display improves usability, while a wide 159-degree field of view ensures immersive framing.

A New Level of Creative Control

Beyond hardware, GoPro is also pushing creative flexibility through software and capture modes. The MISSION 1 Series includes 13 intelligent shooting modes optimized for different scenarios such as vlogging, underwater capture, and action sequences.

For professionals, the cameras support high bitrates up to 240Mbps, 10-bit color, HLG HDR, and GP-Log2 for advanced color grading workflows. Timecode sync is also available, making multi-camera setups easier to manage.

Breaking Down the MISSION 1 Models

Choosing the right camera in the MISSION 1 Series ultimately comes down to how much performance and flexibility you need for your workflow. While all three models share the same core DNA, each one is clearly positioned for a specific type of creator.

GoPro MISSION 1 PRO

The MISSION 1 PRO sits at the top as the flagship model. It offers the full experience, including 8K video at up to 60fps, ultra-high frame rates like 4K 240 and 1080p 960, and Open Gate recording at both 8K30 and 4K120. This is the model built for professionals who need maximum performance in both resolution and slow motion, along with the best possible image quality and thermal efficiency.

GoPro MISSION 1

Stepping slightly below is the MISSION 1, which retains the same 50MP sensor and GP3 processor but comes with more modest video capabilities. It supports 8K30 recording, 4K120 Open Gate, and slower frame rates compared to the PRO. For many creators, especially those producing content for online platforms, this model still delivers more than enough power while potentially being more accessible.

GoPro MISSION 1 PRO ILS

Then there’s the MISSION 1 PRO ILS, which introduces a completely different level of versatility. Unlike the fixed-lens design of the other two, this variant features an interchangeable lens system compatible with Micro Four Thirds lenses. That means users can switch between wide, telephoto, macro, and specialty lenses depending on the shoot.

Expanding the System with Accessories

Complementing the cameras is a growing ecosystem of accessories designed to enhance usability and production quality. Highlights include a new wireless microphone system, a redesigned Media Mod with expanded I/O options, and versatile grips that transform the camera into a more traditional shooting setup.

Lighting, ND filters, and protective housings further extend the camera’s capabilities, while the Volta 2 battery grip adds extra power and control for longer shoots. All accessories are set to roll out gradually starting May 2026 through the third quarter of the year.

Availability and What's Next

GoPro will officially showcase the MISSION 1 Series at NAB 2026, where pricing details will be revealed. Preorders for select models in the United States will begin on May 21, 2026, with retail availability starting May 28. Additional variants and bundles are expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2026.

Speaking about the launch, Nicholas Woodman shared, “The MISSION 1 Series is the pinnacle of performance for low-cost, compact cinema cameras. Our most demanding, pro-minded customers have asked us for years to make this very line of cameras, and we’ve finally delivered. The MISSION 1 Series is designed to go to hell and back, and that’s exactly where our customers are going to take them. The footage is going to look amazing.”

Adding to that, Pablo Lema noted, “With the launch of the MISSION 1 Series, GoPro is entering the premium end of the digital imaging market in a significant way. The combination of our new 50 megapixel 1” sensor and ultra-efficient GP3 processor sets a new performance bar for compact cinema cameras, enabling resolutions, frame rates, low-light performance, runtimes and thermal capabilities never seen before in cameras this small.”

With this release, GoPro is not just evolving its product lineup, it is redefining what creators can expect from compact cameras moving forward.
