OPPO, Discovery Launch Culture in a Shot 2026 Filmmaker Accelerator
OPPO and Discovery continue their Culture in a Shot initiative in 2026 with a new Filmmaker Accelerator Program for global creators.
- Creative Storytelling: OPPO and Discovery are bringing back Culture in a Shot for its third year with the new Filmmaker Accelerator Program, designed to help creators tell culturally inspired stories with a more cinematic approach.
- Global Mentorship: The program will provide selected creators with mentorship in storytelling, filming, and post-production, along with grants and OPPO smartphone devices to help bring their creative ideas to life.
- Cultural Expression: With the theme “Meet Culture Anew, Make Your Moment,” the 2026 initiative encourages people around the world to capture culture as something alive, evolving, and shaped by everyday moments.
OPPO and Discovery have officially introduced the third edition of their global Culture in a Shot initiative, this time with a stronger focus on empowering creators through the new Filmmaker Accelerator Program.
Now entering its third year, Culture in a Shot 2026 carries the theme “Meet Culture Anew, Make Your Moment,” highlighting culture not just as something inherited from the past but as something continuously shaped by people through creativity, connection, and self-expression.
“Culture is not only something we inherit — it is something we actively shape through how we live, connect, and express ourselves,” said Ling Liu, OPPO Overseas CMO. “With Culture in a Shot, we aim to present culture as a living, evolving presence, and to enable more people to engage with it in their own ways.”
From Capturing Culture to Enabling Cultural Expression
For 2026, OPPO and Discovery are shifting the initiative from simply capturing culture to enabling more people to express it through their own perspectives.
Building on previous themes such as Portraits of Legacy and Celebrate the Moment, this year’s campaign looks at culture as something that continues to evolve through everyday experiences, from food and fashion to short-form videos, local festivals, and personal interactions.
Filmmaker Accelerator Program
At the heart of Culture in a Shot 2026 is the newly launched Filmmaker Accelerator Program.
Jointly launched by OPPO and Discovery, the program is designed to support new generations of creators around the world in developing culturally inspired stories with cinematic expression.
Participants will receive end-to-end mentorship across storytelling, filming, and post-production. They will also be supported with grants and OPPO’s latest smartphone devices to help turn their creative visions into finished works.
The completed projects will be featured as part of the Culture in a Shot initiative and shared through the OPPO x Discovery collaboration website, giving participating creators broader global visibility.
Creators joining the Super Video category of the OPPO Photography Awards 2026 may also have the opportunity to be invited to join the Filmmaker Accelerator Program, depending on regional schedules.
Bringing Cultural Stories to a Global Audience
Alongside the Filmmaker Accelerator, OPPO and Discovery are continuing the global journey of Culture in a Shot through new content and user participation.
For 2026, the collaboration begins in Singapore, exploring how Peranakan cuisine continues to be reinterpreted in contemporary life.
The initiative also expands through the OPPO Culture Challenge on TikTok, where users worldwide are invited to capture cultural moments inspired by local festivals and everyday experiences using the hashtag #OPPOCultureChallenge.
Through these efforts, OPPO and Discovery aim to make cultural storytelling more immediate, diverse, and accessible to a wider audience.
With OPPO present in more than 90 countries and regions, Culture in a Shot has become part of the brand’s global identity. Through the 2026 edition, OPPO and Discovery continue to present culture as a living and evolving force shaped by participation, creativity, and connection.
