Apple Pay in the Philippines, Now Available - How To Set It Up on Your iPhone and Which Cards Are Supported
Apple Pay is now available in the Philippines, letting iPhone and Apple Watch users make secure contactless payments in stores, apps, and supported websites.
- Tap To Pay: Apple Pay has officially arrived in the Philippines, allowing users to make quick and secure payments using their iPhone or Apple Watch anywhere contactless credit or debit card payments are accepted.
- Added Security: Instead of entering a PIN for payments, Apple Pay authenticates transactions through Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode, helping protect card information while making everyday purchases more convenient.
- Easy Setup: Filipinos can add supported credit and debit cards through the Apple Wallet app, while cards can also be added through participating banking apps from Chinabank, GoTyme Bank, Metrobank, and UnionBank.
In line with the announcement of the new iPhone models, TechPinas would like to remind Apple fans in the Philippines that last August 11, 2026, Apple Pay officially arrived in the country, giving Filipino users another convenient way to make payments using their Apple devices.
The arrival of Apple Pay means iPhone and Apple Watch users in the Philippines can now add supported credit or debit cards to their devices and use them for quick and secure contactless payments. Instead of taking out a physical card, users can simply authenticate transactions through Face ID, Touch ID, or their device passcode.
The timing makes Apple Pay particularly relevant as attention once again turns to Apple's latest iPhone models. For Filipino consumers planning to upgrade to a new iPhone, or those who already own a compatible Apple device, Apple Pay adds another practical feature that can become part of their everyday digital experience.
Pay With Your iPhone or Apple Watch
One of Apple Pay's biggest advantages is how naturally it integrates into Apple's existing hardware and software ecosystem. On the iPhone, users can access their payment cards without having to open a separate banking or payment application every time they want to make a purchase.
Users simply double-click the side button from the Lock Screen or even while using another app. After authenticating the payment, the iPhone can then be held near a compatible contactless payment reader.
Apple Pay can be used anywhere users see the contactless payment symbol or supported payment icon. Since transactions are authenticated using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, Apple says no PIN is required for payments.
For Apple Watch users, having Apple Pay also means another way to make purchases without needing to pull out a physical credit or debit card.
Face ID Helps Secure Payments
Convenience is only part of the Apple Pay experience. Security is another major component, particularly as more consumers become comfortable using smartphones for financial transactions.
Apple Pay uses the built-in authentication technologies already available on compatible Apple devices. Face ID, for instance, can authenticate a payment with a glance, helping ensure that the person making the transaction is authorized to use the card.
Touch ID or a device passcode can also be used for authentication. This means that simply possessing the iPhone isn't enough to complete an Apple Pay transaction without the required authentication.
Apple also does not charge users additional fees when making a purchase through Apple Pay.
Faster Online Checkout
Apple Pay isn't only meant for tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch against a contactless terminal inside a physical store. The service can also simplify online shopping through supported apps and websites.
Instead of repeatedly typing card information and checkout details, users can select the Apple Pay button during checkout. Relevant information is automatically populated, after which the user can review the purchase and authenticate the transaction.
For Filipinos who regularly shop using their smartphones, this could make checkout noticeably quicker while reducing the need to repeatedly enter sensitive card details into different online forms.
Setting Up Apple Pay
Getting started does not require downloading a separate Apple Pay application or creating another account. Apple Pay is integrated into the Wallet app that already comes with the iPhone.
Users can open Wallet, tap the "+" button, and follow the instructions to add a supported credit or debit card. Once properly set up, the card can be used for Apple Pay transactions.
Supported cards can also be added through participating banking applications. Users can add cards through the Chinabank My CBC app, GoTyme Bank app, Metrobank app, and UnionBank app.
For those who don't currently have a physical card, there's another option. Users can apply for a virtual debit card through the GoTyme Bank app and quickly add that card to Apple Pay.
How to Set Up Apple Pay
Setting up Apple Pay is fairly straightforward. To get started, users need to add a supported debit or credit card to the Wallet app on their iPhone, Apple Watch, or another compatible Apple device.
Before setting up the service, Apple says users will need the following:
- A compatible Apple device running the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, or visionOS.
- A supported debit or credit card from a participating card issuer.
- An Apple Account signed in to the Apple device.
- Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID, or a passcode set on the device.
Users who are unsure whether their particular card works with Apple Pay should contact their card issuer. Apple also maintains a list of countries and regions that support Apple Pay.
How to Add a Card on iPhone
For eligible cards, Apple provides several ways to add a debit or credit card to an iPhone. Users may be able to tap or hold the physical card close to the iPhone, or they can enter the card information manually.
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap the Add Card (+) button.
- Choose Cards Found For You to add a previously used eligible card, or select Debit or Credit Card to add a new one.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap or hold the eligible card close to the iPhone to add it. Alternatively, tap Enter Card Details Manually and follow the onscreen instructions.
- Complete any additional verification required by your bank or card issuer.
Depending on the bank or card issuer, additional authentication may be necessary before the card is approved for Apple Pay. The issuer may request more information or require the user to download its banking app as part of the verification process.
How to Add a Card to Apple Watch
Those who have a paired Apple Watch can also add an eligible debit or credit card to their smartwatch. The setup can be initiated through the Apple Watch app on the paired iPhone.
- On the paired iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
- Under the My Watch tab, tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Tap Add Card.
- Select Debit or Credit Card to add a new card, or Cards Found For You to add an eligible card that was previously used.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap or hold the card close to the iPhone. If this option is unavailable, position the debit or credit card within the onscreen frame to scan it, or select Enter Card Details Manually.
- If required, verify the information with the bank or card issuer to complete the setup.
Users can also follow the instructions shown in the Wallet app on their Apple Watch when manually adding a debit or credit card to the wearable.
Apple Pay on Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro
Apple Pay can also be configured on compatible Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro devices. The process varies slightly depending on the device being used.
- Open the Wallet & Apple Pay settings on the device. On a Mac with Touch ID, go to System Settings or System Preferences, then select Wallet & Apple Pay. On an iPad or Apple Vision Pro, open Settings and select Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Select Add Card.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to add the debit or credit card.
- If required, verify the information with the bank or card issuer.
For Mac models without built-in Touch ID, purchases can still be completed using Apple Pay through a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch. On the iPhone, users can go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay and enable Allow Payments on Mac.
With these options, Apple Pay can extend beyond the iPhone and become part of the wider Apple device experience, whether users are paying at a contactless terminal with an iPhone or Apple Watch or completing an online purchase on another compatible Apple device.
A Welcome Addition for Apple Users
The Philippine arrival of Apple Pay gives iPhone and Apple Watch owners another option for making everyday payments while taking advantage of the security features already built into their devices.
Rather than reaching for a physical card or manually entering payment information online, users can authenticate purchases using Face ID, Touch ID, or their passcode. The ability to use Apple Pay anywhere compatible contactless cards are accepted also makes the feature immediately practical for users who already encounter tap-to-pay terminals in their daily routines.
With Apple's newest iPhone models now in the spotlight, Apple Pay is another feature worth remembering for Filipino users entering or upgrading within the Apple ecosystem. Beyond the hardware improvements of a new iPhone, services like Apple Pay show how the device can increasingly become part of everyday activities, including something as simple as paying for a purchase with a tap.
