Huawei Nova 2i Launch in the Philippines, A Big Success

On Saturday - October 21, 2017, international tech giant Huawei Technologies officially launched their much anticipated midrange Android smartphone - the Huawei Nova 2i - in the Philippines via a grand event held at SM Mall of Asia Atrium in Pasay City.

The brand's celebrity endorsers, digital influencers, hardcore fans, and blogger partners all attended the gathering where the company took the opportunity to inform the buying public about the many amazing features of the new handset.

In this photo, I'm joined by Majo De Guzman - one of Huawei's regional product trainers, as well as Richard and Ronald who are two of the first Filipinos to purchase and own a Huawei Nova 2i smartphone. Since they pre-ordered the device, they got a free JBL Flip 3 Bluetooth Speaker!

Many design elements or props used during the event were intentionally implemented to show the public the main selling points of Huawei Nova 2i.

For instance, the arch welcoming the public into the event space shows the four cameras of the smartphone - two in front and two at the back - which the event hashtag #OOOO is really all about.

The large display in front was also framed or designed in such a way that it looks like the button-less free Full View screen of the handset. I was actually very impressed with these details.

After the launch, our friends from Huawei also held games for their fans like "Bring Me", in which they asked for items like "four 1 peso coins" or "four Php 1000 bills" that again alluded to the main selling points of Huawei Nova 2i.

But probably the most anticipated part of the program was at the actual selling of the handset.

Huawei fans like Ronald and Richard - who registered for the device ahead of the others through the Huawei Concept Store in SM Mall of Asia CyberZone - finally got their hands on their much awaited smartphone along with the promised Php 6,450 JBL Flip 3 Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker!

All throughout the day, Filipino consumers - young and old, but mostly millennials - lined up to purchase the powerhouse mid-level handset release.

Since Huawei also set up booths where fans could play with an actual working model, many casual consumers who got to play with the phone made the decision to buy a unit right then and there.

All purchased Huawei Nova 2i come with 1 year parts and service warranty as well as free protective case and Bluetooth Speaker (just a generic one for those who didn't pre-order the device).

Huawei sales representatives also gladly assisted the consumers in unboxing and setting up their freshly purchased Huawei Nova 2i. They also let the buyers in on everything that the handset has to offer.

I got to talk to many of the sales reps at the venue, including Majo, and I was - again - impressed with their knowledge about Huawei Nova 2i - from the design all the way to the capabilities of the four cameras and the internal hardware.

At around 730PM - I passed by the event venue again after having dinner and I saw that many Filipinos were still lining up to purchase Huawei Nova 2i.

Largely because the event was embraced by the company's partners as well as the buying public from the time it started all the way to mall's closing time, I would say that the Huawei Nova 2i launch in the Philippines was a big success.

Huawei considers the Nova 2i was their Light Flagship Android smartphone for Q4 2017, coming in to early 2018 -- and rightfully so.

Clad in sleek and durable anodized aluminum, this smartphone is equipped with a downright gorgeous 5.9-inch FHD+ 2,160 x 1080 pixels resolution (409 ppi) FullView IPS display with 2.5D Curved Scratch-Resistant Glass protection, a 16 MegaPixel PDAF plus 2 MegaPixel Dual Rear Camera module with dual tone LED flash, a 13 MegaPixel AF plus 2 MegaPixel Dual Front Cam set-up with SoftLight illumination, Full HD front and back video recorder, a Fingerprint Scanner at the back near the middle, and a non-removable 3,340 mAh Li-Ion battery pack for around a whole day of uptime with regular use.

Under the hood, the handset runs its EMUI 5.1 flavored Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with a 64-Bit 2.36 GHz Octa Core Kirin 659 processor that integrates Mali-T830 graphics for enjoyable gaming experience, has 4GB of RAM for smooth multitasking, and comes with 64GB of onboard storage that can be easily and instantly augmented using the hybrid secondary nanoSIM slot that supports microSD card memory expansion.

Huawei Nova 2i's official suggested retail price in the Philippines is only Php 14,990, which is a lot lower than our Php 16,000 to Php 17,000 SRP guesstimate for this model a month back. This light flagship is available in three colors, Graphite Black (which is available now), Prestige Gold (out on November 10, 2017) and Aurora Blue (coming on November 20, 2017.) For Pinoy consumers who want to make the most of this handset's amazing features, you might want to get it as a bundled device with Smart Postpaid, which gives you access to Smart's fast and reliable internet speeds and services.
