BlackBerry KEY2 LE Philippines Price is PHP 24,990, Full Specs, Actual Unit Photos

Contrary to what some say and many believe, the BlackBerry brand is still alive and kicking!

Sure, it may not exactly be the BlackBerry of old but the brand is still here and TCL - the tech company which now owns it - is determined at making it stay.

In fact, on Tuesday - May 21, 2019, TCL Philippines - the new home of BlackBerry in our country - held an exclusive media event at Green Pastures restaurant in BGC, Taguig City though which they officially launched two new BlackBerry handsets.

According to company reps and even their influencers, these new BlackBerry smartphones are targeted towards consumers with a particular taste, including those who are the peak of their careers or professions. These are also ideal for loyal BlackBerry fans who still appreciate the value of having an actual keyboard along with trusted security features on their daily drivers.

Shown in these photos, the BlackBerry KEY2 LE (LE for Lite Edition) is the more affordable model of the duo as it comes with more modest technical specifications and features compared to the regular version.

BlackBerry KEY2 LE

In a nutshell, this device features a 4.5-inch FullHD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with Gorilla Glass protection, an 8 MegaPixel front-facing camera for selfies that can also shoot FullHD clips, and - of course - a Full QWERTY fretted keyboard, which is one of the hallmarks of a BlackBerry smartphone.

I've played with this keyboard and I'd say it feels a lot like what's on the BlackBerry Passport, which is perhaps one of the last great BlackBerry models of old. Sure, it doesn't support swipe typing and navigation - like what's on the regular BlackBerry KEY2 LE - but its tactile feedback remains top-notch.

At the back, the device sports a Dual Rear Camera module made up of a 12 MegaPixel f/2.2 primary shooter plus a secondary 5 MegaPixel f/2.4 Depth Sensor that enables Bokeh Effect, allowing you to add a blurred background to your portraits as well as food and product shots.

Under the hood, this model runs its Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with a 14nm Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor that's complemented by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded using the phone's microSD card slot.

Frankly, these internal specs are already a bit dated compared to other Android smartphones in the same price bracket, which I believe reinforces the fact that this phone is not particularly made for the masses who demand to get the best technical specifications for their money.

Like the more expensive metal-clad version, the KEY2 LE is for the long-time BB Fan who finds himself or herself more productive on his or her smartphone if it has an actual keyboard.
This is for those who feel more at ease getting and sending business emails on a device with a BlackBerry logo as well as BlackBerry security and messaging apps.

Design wise, although BlackBerry KEY2 LE lacks the aluminum chassis of its pricier sibling, for me it still looks downright classy and elegant. Heck, if you run a business or if you work with high-end clients, this is phone that you won't be shy to put on the table as it has an air of corporate sophistication.

I particularly like the Atomic (Red) version which I have in these photos. I mean, just look at it. The mid-frame has an eye-catching shade while the back plate, which dons the legendary BlackBerry logo, has a textured matte finish that doesn't attract fingerprint grime.

Interested? You can now get BlackBerry KEY2 LE at select MemoXpress branches across the country for PHP 24,990. TCL Philippines reps also told me that buyers may also order one from a branch near you in case the store doesn't have it on the spot.

I know. It's a bit pricey given its specs. But I guess if you're a Pinoy BlackBerry fan who's long been waiting a phone like this, I'm sure you'd be willing to bite the bullet and go for it -- if not the more expensive model.
