Android 2.4 Ice Cream : Coming in June?!

According to Pocket-Lint's 'multiple sources familiar with the matter', the next major update to the Android OS for smartphones is set to arrive sometime in June this year.

Quoting the tech site,

[Android 2.4 Ice Cream] is set for a June/July timeframe this year with an announcement expected at the company’s IO conference at the beginning of May in San Francisco.

The news comes as a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, supposedly running the yet-to-be-announced mobile OS, was found on the show floor at CES. [...]

[Our anonymous] sources have confirmed that the new OS is coming, and coming in the not-too-distant future.

If the rumors are true and if global warming continues to mess up weather seasons, we here in the Philippines can have Ice Cream in Summer.

Interesting. But the thing is, although Android 2.4 Ice Cream seems to fit the alphabetical nomenclature of Google's mobile platform releases; that is, Doughnut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, then Ice Cream, Google's Lead UI Designer for Android - Matias Duarte himself told Engadget in an interview last week that Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet OS is meant to be 'scalable', giving everyone a hint that Honeycomb could actually come to smartphones;

So are we getting Ice Cream or Honeycomb for Smartphones? Stay tuned for updates.
