OnePlus 7 Pro Philippines Price at Digital Walker, Specs, Actual Photos, Initial Impressions

Ever since Chinese tech company OnePlus started releasing handsets in 2014, the brand has been known as the "flagship killer" as their budget-friendly products usually feature technical specifications that you'd find on devices that cost twice as much.

This year's high-end offering, the OnePlus 7 Pro, obviously departs from the company's tried and tested strategy as it dons a price tag that's dangerously close to that of Samsung or Huawei's top of the line 2019 Android smartphones.

In fact, the 12GB + 256GB version of this model sells for PHP 45,990 at Digital Walker, making it the most expensive OnePlus handset that has been released in our country so far.

Given that, I guess the question in everyone's mind is, "Does the OnePlus 7 Pro have the chops to win against this year's popular flagship level smartphones despite having an ultra-premium price tag?"

Well, my quick answer to that is "Yes". In fact, in this post, I have decided to talk about the seven features or areas where I think the OnePlus 7 Pro can give its leading competitors a big run for the money." Join me as I go through them one by one.

Design

Looking at all of the Chinese company's previous releases, it's clear as day that OnePlus 7 Pro is their most handsome phone yet. In fact, it's so goodlooking that I think it can stand shoulder to shoulder with Samsung Galaxy S10+ or Huawei P30 Pro and not feel shy.

The device has curved front and back glass panels that gently taper around the sides. The rear even has a frosted finish that attracts less fingerprint grime and gives the phone a metallic sheen when light hits it.

The all-screen face as well as the middle placement of the triple rear camera module give the handset a highly symmetric look that's quite frankly rare in smartphones these days.

Build Quality

Made to last, OnePlus 7 Pro has an anodized aluminum mid-frame that's both elegant and durable. This material also gives a phone heft that's gives the holder reassurance that it can take the knocks and bumps of daily use.

All OnePlus models including this one have undergone stress tests to ensure that they will be able to survive light bending when placed in the jeans' front pockets or drop from chest height.

Feeling OnePlus 7 Pro in the hand, it's hard to deny that this device is built like a tank. It's feels solid through and through.

Display

This is perhaps the one area where OnePlus 7 Pro totally slays the competition.

This model is first from the company to have a totally notchless, hole-free, and near bezel-less screen that greatly enhances viewing pleasure. It sports a a massive 6.67-inch QuadHD+ Optic AMOLED display with no distractions whatsoever, allowing the user to fully immerse himself or herself in the mobile experience regardless of the activity.

Whether you enjoy playing games like Mobile Legends Bang Bang on your handset or you love watching TV series on the device via Netflix, I'm sure you will find the experience more fun and engaging on this sizable HDR10+ enabled display.

OnePlus was able to remove the notch on this release by putting the 16 MegaPixel f/2.0 front-facing AI selfie camera inside a motorized elevating mechanism that's frankly similar to what we've seen on the Vivo V15 Pro and OPPO F11 Pro.

Triple Rear Cameras

Speaking of cameras, OnePlus 7 Pro is also easily the most powerful cameraphone that the company has come up with so far as it has three shooters at the back, giving the user maximum flexibility in snapping images.

This set-up is more or less similar to what you will find on the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ as well Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. You get a primary cam with wide aperture that makes it great for low light conditions, a secondary ultra-wide cam for capturing landscape and group photos without taking several steps back, and tertiary cam with telephoto or zoom lens.

For aspiring vloggers and Youtube content creators, you can definitely use OnePlus 7 Pro as your reliable tool and companion as its primary rear cam can record 4K videos at up to 60 frames per second or 1080p clips at up to a whopping 240 frames per second for ultra-slow-motion. The elevating front-facing camera, on the other hand, can shoot FullHD 1080p 30 frames per second videos.

Having played with this cameraphone for a bit, I really wish that I could also record videos using the wide-angle rear camera of OnePlus 7 Pro since that would be great for travel vlogs and that the front cam could capture 4K clips. Compared to Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+'s video recording capabilities, these are glaring points for improvement of this release. I hope OnePlus would level-up in this department to give the Korean Giant good competition.

Internal Hardware

Though I find OnePlus 7 Pro's video recording prowess a bit wanting, this phone's innards more than meet my expectations.

This true flagship level device runs its Oxygen OS skinned Android 9.0 Pie operating system with a downright powerful yet very energy-efficient 7nm Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor that's complemented by either 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of non-expandable storage.

My review unit the 12GB RAM + 256ROM version and when I ran Antutu Benchmark Test on it, I got a score of 371,734, which is easily one of the highest marks you can get from a 2019 Android smartphone.

In real world use, this translates to buttery smooth gaming experience even when playing resource intensive titles like PUBG Mobile and also stutter-free multitasking experience even when running so many applications at once.

Battery Size and Charging Speed

OnePlus 7 Pro's big 4,000 mAh Li-Po battery pack has been tested to deliver more than 14 hours and 30 minutes of music playback, around 10 hours of web browsing, and 34 hours of talk time. This means that you can easily get a whole day of uptime from this phone on a full charge with regular use.

However, in case that's not enough for you since you're a power user, charging the handset shouldn't take too long as this model comes with industry leading 30W Warp Charging, which delivers up to 52% charge in just 30 minutes.

Optical In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

In-Display fingerprint scanning technology on smartphones has been available in the market for at least two years now and I think it's great that companies - including OnePlus, of course - continue to build upon it to further improve user experience.

Compared to older generation ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanners that I've tried, OnePlus 7 Pro's optical sensor is a lot faster and more accurate. I rarely find myself tapping on it multiple times before I get it right. Usually, one tap is all it takes for this pad to read my fingerprint, which is big for me since I often check my handset for social media notifications.

Is it the right smartphone for you?

Frankly, there are a number of beastly high-end smartphone options in the PHP 38,000 to PHP 46,000 price bracket -- and all of them have their own stellar merits. But if you're tired of owning a device created and marketed heavily by the usual suspects and you're now open to betting your hard-earned cash on a smartphone by a relatively new yet steadily growing brand with incredible online community support, you should definitely check out OnePlus 7 Pro. Sure, it has a few niggles here and there but given all of its strengths which I mentioned above, for me, it's still worthy of the moniker "Flagship Killer".
