PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid Review : Unboxing, Set-Up, SpeedTest Results, FamLoad Packages

How would you like the idea of a grab and go, plug and play device that instantly gives you internet access at home as soon as you turn it on and offers the convenience of being loaded from practically anywhere?

Do you wish that you and your family can enjoy fast and reliable internet when working on school assignments, watching videos together, or doing any online activity but pay only for the data that you actually consume and not have to overspend?

PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid

If those questions piqued your interest, then I suggest that you check out PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid which is powered by Smart LTE, the country's fastest mobile data network.

I've been trying out this product for a couple of weeks now and I certainly think that it's a viable option for small families or even individuals living in condos and boarding houses who want to enjoy the convenience and budget-friendly proposition of prepaid internet.

What makes PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid even more attractive is that PLDT is currently offering a major price discount on this product. From having a regular SRP of PHP 1,995, the device now has a promo price of only PHP 1,295. That's a whopping PHP 700 off, if my math serves me right.

Update: From January 28 to March 31, 2020, PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid will be available for the best value price of only PHP 995 at all PLDT and Smart Stores, Lazada, SM Stores, Lazada, and other authorized dealers nationwide. Also, subscribers will enjoy 2X more data for browsing the internet, playing games, and checking apps with family and loved ones.

For that amount, you will get the PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid unit itself, the DC power plug, a free ethernet cable, the quick user guide, and the warranty certificate.

Basically, that's all you need to start enjoying fast internet connection anywhere you are!

PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid is a plug and play device, which means you won't have to reconfigure it so to install any software to begin using it.

You simply have to use the provided DC power connector as shown in the photo above and plug it to an electrical outlet. For me, it can't get easier and more convenient than that.

You won't even have to put the Smart LTE SIM card in the device as it already comes pre-installed. But the thing is, you can't remove or replace it because the number is linked to the unit.

Every PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid unit comes with Free 10GB of Open Access Data valid up to seven days after the device has been activated. This means that you can start surfing the web as soon as you plug in your unit, right out of the box.

The WiFi name or SSID is printed on a sticker under the device. It usually it starts with "PLDT_Home_[Unique Alphanumeric Figure]" as shown in the photo below.

On your smartphone or laptop, just tap or click on the SSID and type "pldthome" in password box to connect it.

"pldthome" is the default PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid password but you can easily change or personalize it by going to pldthomewifisettings.net while connected to your unit.

"pldthome" is likewise the default password for pldthomewifisettings.net and you can immediately change as soon as you log-in as shown in the image below. You will be logged out after making this change and you will have to sign in again using the new password.

Take note that this will just be your new password for the website and not for your SSID.

To change your WiFi or SSID password, you have to go to Wireless Settings and under SSID, change the default password "pldthome" to a new one that you desire. Then, click Save.

It's easier to do this using a laptop or desktop but you can definitely do it using your smartphone too.

After that, you will be automatically disconnected from your PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid connection and you'd have to reconnect using the new password that you assigned to it.

After that, you just have to share your WiFi password with your family, your loved ones, or your roommates so you can all enjoy fast and reliable internet connection from PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid and Smart LTE!

Oh, and one tip I want to share: You might want to do an experiment to find out which part of your house, room, or condo gets the strongest Smart LTE signal. Usually it's areas near a large window or facing a street. You can use SpeedTest App to check which "placement" gives you the best dowload and upload speeds.

Speaking of SpeedTest, here are three consecutive results that I got when I ran the test on my smartphone with internet speeds c/o my PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid here in Tondo, Manila.

PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid SpeedTest Result
First Test: 5.79 Mbps Download Speed and 5.63 Mbps Upload Speed

Second Test: 11.2 Mbps Download Speed and 5.84 Mbps Upload Speed

Third Test: 8.63 Mbps Download Speed and 5.89 Mbps Upload Speed

Although I think PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid speeds could be faster here in Tondo, the download speeds that I'm getting are certainly good enough for playing Youtube videos in Full HD or 1080p resolution. Here, I used it for watching Marcelito Pomoy's amazing performance at America's Got Talent, which is currently the #1 Trending Video on Youtube.

My PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid internet speeds also deliver lag-free Mobile Legends: Bang Bang gaming experience. Earlier, I got butter-smooth game-play even with High-Definition (HD) Mode, High Frame Rate (HFR) Mode, and Ultra Graphics turned on.

Like many of you, I categorize myself as a Power User when it comes to internet consumption. I watch Full HD and 4K online videos often and I also upload high-resolution photos and videos regularly for my blog and my Youtube channel. I also share my internet connection with my younger brother who pretty much does the same online activities because he's also a blogger. As such, I'm glad that aside from offering PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid device for a lower price, PLDT has also greatly beefed up their FamLoad data packages for this product.

PLDT's all-new FamLoad packages come in various sizes that fit every Pinoy family's online activities and monthly budget. FamLoad 199 comes with 24 GB of open access data and it's good for families that use the internet lightly like for making Google searches, watching non-HD videos on Youtube, or 2D gaming. FamLoad 599 gives you 80 GB of data, which is great for schoolwork and HD video streaming. FamLoad 999 delivers 130 GB of data and this is good enough to cover online gaming or watching 4K videos on Youtube daily. Finally, FamLoad 1499 which offers a whopping 200 GB of open access data is perfect for families with multiple heavy internet users and it's also great for those who run an online business.

Personally, the new FamLoad 1499 fits my family's needs just right since my brother and I are both bloggers, Youtube content creators, and mobile gamers.

As I've shared previously, I love the fact that FamLoads for PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid offer the flexibility of loading only the data that you need. These economical data packs are available for daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly reloading (it's all up to you), so you won't have to pay for data that you won't consume anyway.

Now that PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid is more affordable than ever and that the all-new FamLoad packs are loaded with even more data, I am greatly inclined to recommend it to all Filipino families who are interested in its prepaid, hassle-free, plug-and-play proposition.

PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid is available for only PHP 1,295 at all PLDT and Smart Stores, Smart Online Store, SM Stores, Lazada, and other authorized dealers nationwide. Customers will also get free 10GB worth of data valid for seven days upon activating their PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid unit that's powered by Smart, the country’s fastest LTE network as certified by Ookla and OpenSignal.
