SPOTTED: MyPhone Rio 2 Priced at Php 5,699 in Starmall Shaw MyPhone Kiosk, Two Days Before Official Launch

The much-anticipated MyPhone Rio 2 - the 2015 follow-up to last year's best-selling midrange smartphone of the Pinoy handset company - is set to be formally launched on March 31, 2015 (that's already this coming Tuesday). But it appears that at least one MyPhone retail outlet has already started offering this specific phone model to the public.

MyPhone Rio 2, MyPhone Rio2

TP Friend Chris Oliver Sasota was walking around Starmall Shaw earlier today when he chanced upon this Rio 2 unit on display at a MyPhone Kiosk. "I just passed by the stall, Sir Mark. The phone was inside the display cabinet and it looked like it was already up for purchase," he told me.

The kiosk is asking for Php 5,699 for a unit. As yet, we are not sure if this is already the official SRP of this model or if it's just a pre-launch price for those who want to own MyPhone Rio 2 ahead of everyone else. According to Chris, "The same store is offering the Rio 2 Lite for Php 4,990." -- which is odd, since we learned recently - via tarpaulin displays promoting the phone - that the Lite version's official price only Php 3,999.

Based on leaked photos of the handset as well as its official packaging, MyPhone Rio 2 is equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS Full Laminated display, an 8 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash and Sony Sensor, a 5 MegaPixel front cam for selfies, WiFi and 3G HSPA+ support, 1.3 GHz Quad Core processor (I believe it's a MediaTek MT6582 SoC but - again - I'm hoping it's the new MT6732M chip, which is already 64-bit and incorporates four ARM Cortex A53 cores and a more powerful Mali T760 GPU), 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of expandable storage.
