Apple Netbook Rumors and Fan Concepts

"[We] don’t know how to make a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk."

That's what Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, told analysts back in October 2008 when asked if the company plans to join the industry's Netbook-making craze. Pretty strong statement - but with Apple's Mac sales dropping by 6-percent in January 2009, their first monthly loss in three years, they just might reconsider.

And recent reports suggest that this could just be the case; Commercial Times, a Chinese newspaper, disclosed that Taiwan-based Wintek is working with Apple to develop new products. What products exactly? Even Wintek doesn't know. But the LCD company has already signed a contract to supply Apple with touch panels and shipments might be made come the second-half of the year. Commercial Times hinted that the touch panels might be used for netbooks.

This news fueled Apple's rather creative fans to release their own Apple Macbook Touch Netbook concepts such as this one:

Looks cool.

Apple Netbook? It actually makes sense - believe it or not. Notebook sales surpassed that of Desktops during the last quarter of 2008 and it is attributed to the increase in Netbook sales the world over. Acer Aspire One became the top selling netbook of 2008, overtaking Asus' eeePC sales and making Acer the 3rd most successful laptop brand of 2008 in terms of sales.
