RealMe Android Smartphone Line, Launched by OPPO as Online Exclusive Series

Chinese handset OPPO has just gone the way of its erstwhile rival Huawei by also releasing an Android smartphone line exclusively for online stores.

Whereas Huawei has the Honor series, OPPO now has realme -- which has just been launched in India's Amazon Store.

The name "realme" most likely alludes to OPPO's AI Beautification Software that allows its selfie-centric cameraphones to "capture the real you".

The first model in this fresh line is the realme 1.

Based on OPPO A3, realme 1 looks like a smaller version of the OPPO F7 Diamond Black Edition.

This handset sports a notched 6.2-inch Full HD+ LTPS display with 19:9 aspect ratio, a 16 MegaPixel f/1.8 rear camera, 8 MegaPixel f/2.2 front cam with AI Beauty Technology, MediaTek Helio P60 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage.

As of writing, it's not yet clear whether the Philippines will also be a key or priority market for realme smartphones.

What I know for sure is that the OPPO brand itself already has strong presence in the top online gadget stores in the Philippines, including Lazada, Shopee, and argomall. So at the back of my mind, I doubt if it will make sense for the company to launch realme here. Unless, of course, if realme will be handled by a company that's altogether separate or different from OPPO Mobile Philippines.
