Cherry Mobile Omega Aeon Price Php 5,999, Specs, In The Flesh Photos, Initial Impressions : What's So Special About It?

Of the many, many Android smartphones launched via Cherry Mobile's 2014 Fiesta Promo, this one appears to be the most popular. I mean, I've been getting lots of inquiries about Cherry Mobile Omega Aeon even before it was formally unveiled by the local electronics giant so I guess there must be something special about it.

Last Friday - May 30, 2014 - at the Cherry Mobile #Unbeatable Tech Blogger and Media Thanksgiving Event, I got the chance to play with this cool handset and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised with its design, touch response, and imaging performance.

Looks-wise, it flaunts a heavily-cornered and edgy design identity reminiscent of Huawei Ascend P1. It doesn't really have metallic accents - apart from the rim of the camera module - but there's enough contrast between matte and glossy materials to make the handset look quite interesting. This elegant shell complements the phone's crisp and brilliant 5-inch HD IPS display panel, which looks great regardless of the viewing angle.

When you hold it, the device exudes a reassuringly solid and sturdy feel in the hand. Yes, it's thin but I believe it's also durable.

Inside the shell, Cherry Mobile Omega Aeon runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system with its Quad Core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A7 and Adreno 302 based Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 MSM8212 processor, handles multitasking with 1 GB of RAM, and has 4 GB of ROM. If you notice, these are the exact same internal specifications of the more affordable Cherry Mobile Nova 2, which could lead one to ask, "Why should I purchase the more expensive Cherry Mobile Omega Aeon when Nova 2 is cheaper and has the same innards?"

Well, my answer to that is, "Apart from its beautiful screen and solid construction, Cherry Mobile Omega Aeon has far superior imaging capabilities. Both the 5 MegaPixel from cam for selfies and 13 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash at the back deliver clear and vibrant shots even in low light conditions. If ever you'd have to pay more for this handset, it's because of these additional features."

One big point for improvement of this release, though, is its rather small 1,700 mAh battery pack. The phone has a big screen and moderately powerful innards and I think the battery size doesn't quite match these features. Nonetheless, considering that Cherry Mobile Aeon only costs Php 5,999, I find it hard to make a big deal out of this obvious shortcoming.
