Samsung Wave - Specs, Philippine Price - Initial Impressions

Look at what greeted me upon return home from my SG trip:

Oh, if only I get to keep them all! ;-D (click on photo for full-res view)

Four review units from Samsung, namely (from left to right) Samsung Genoa, Samsung Duos, Samsung Monte and Samsung Wave. Looks like someone wants to make sure TP will be packed with Samsung phone reviews before June ends.

I decided to try out Samsung Wave first -- because I have several readers who've been emailing me for a full review ever since the handset was announced last month.

Here are some photos I took of the various panels of device to give you an idea of its actual size and of how well it fits in the hand:

My initial impressions:

Off hand, I really like Samsung Wave's svelte form factor. It's very thin with tapered sides. Depth is around that of your regular Mongol pencil -- if not thinner. Sleek? Definitely. Truth be told, it's one of the best-looking phones I've used.

I've been playing with the phone for two days now and so far it hasn't hung on me yet - not that I'm waiting for that to happen. I believe the phone's ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor makes sure that all apps work smoothly. Even Asphalt5 racing game, which is more spec-demanding than other apps, runs perfectly on the device.

I appreciate the simplicity in the user interface of the new Samsung Bada operating system. Simple, pretty and easy-to-use are perhaps the best adjectives to describe the OS. Matched with Wave's SuperAMOLED capacitive touchscreen, Bada provides good user experience.

Please stay tuned for my full review of Samsung Wave.

Specifications and Pricing Details:

Aside from featuring a new operating sytem and TouchWiz 3.0 user interface, Samsung Wave also comes with quite outstanding multimedia, social media and connectivity functions. These include a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and Touch Autofocus, HD Video playing and recording, 5.1ch mobile theatre, DivX support, Social Hub where you can log on to and organize your various social networking sites, Bluetooth 3.0, Wifi802.11 b/g/n, 3G HSPA.

Samsung Bada is now out in the Philippines with a surprisingly low recommended retail price of only Php 19,900.
