Samsung Omnia 2 vs. Samsung Jet : Look, Specs

Jed Lozada from Lakewood, Ohio emailed TP this question this morning:
"TP, is Samsung Omnia 2 (Omnia Pro i8000) the same as Samsung Jet s8000? I'm confused. Please clarify. Thanks!"

Answer:

Hi Jed! Although they sure look alike, Samsung Omnia II is not the same as Samsung Jet. You have to have an eye for detail to know which one is which:

First, check out Samsung Omnia II

Specs:

800mHz Processor
Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System with Touch Wiz 2.0 Operating System
3.7″ AMOLED Resistive screen with WVGA resolution
HSDPA (7.2MBps), HSUPA (5.6MBps), Wi-Fi, GPS, USB, Bluetooth
8/16GB Built-in Memory and micro-SD card slot
5 Megapixel Camera with autofocus, LED flash,
Geo-tagging and 30Fps Video Recording at 720*480 resolution
DixX / XviD / MPEG4/ H.263/ H.264/ WMV player
MP3/ e-AAC+/ WMA/ RA player, 3.5mm Audio Jack
118 x 59.6 x 11.9 mm, 117 g, 1500mAH Battery

Now, check out Samsung Jet:

Specs:

800mHz Processor
TouchWiz UI
3.1″ AMOLED Resistive screen with WVGA resolution
HSDPA (7.2MBps), Wi-Fi, GPS, USB, Bluetooth
2/8GB Built-in Memory and micro-SD card slot
5 Megapixel Camera with autofocus, LED flash, face, smile and blink detection, wide dynamic range Geo-tagging and 30Fps Video Recording at 720*480 resolution
DivX/XviD/H.263/H.264/MPEG4/WMV player
MP3/WMA/AAC/WAV player, 3.5mm Audio Jack and DNSe
108.8 x 53.5 x 11.9 mm, 110g, 1100mAH Battery

As you can see, their specs are not the same but the most noticeable difference is that:

1. Samsung Omnia II has a bigger Screen than Samsung Jet (3.7" vs 3.1"). As such, Omnia II has a bigger footprint that Jet.

2. Samsung Omnia II runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System, Samsung Jet doesn't.

Samsung Jet is now out in the Philippines and runs for around P22,000.
Samsung Omnia II won't be available for purchase anywhere in the world until October 2009.

UPDATE: Samsung Omnia is now out in the Philippines. In some stores, it sells for Php 25,800 for the 8GB version and Php 27,990 for the 16GB version. The price of Samsung Jet, on the other hand, has gone down to as low as Php 18,950 in some authorized Samsung retail stores.

There you go! :)
