Samsung Galaxy S i9000 Philippines: Officially Launched, Price, Specs, Initial Impressions

Last week, TechPinas received an invite to attend the Philippine launch of the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S scheduled yesterday. TP graced the occasion held in WhiteSpace to let YOU, our dear reader, IN on what's hot about this new device.

Here are some photos taken from the event and shots of the flagship Android phone itself:

Just showing you what was launched at the event. Part of the job, really. :)

Because we all love to do this; taking self-photo.

Touting a design identity reminiscent of iPhone 3GS', Samsung Galaxy S is incredibly thin and light with depth of only 9.9 millimeters and weight of merely 119 grams. Note, however, that the phone's lightweight form factor is a complete anti-thesis to the heavyweight features it delivers.

Samsung Galaxy S dons a breathtaking 4" SuperAMOLED capacitive touchscreen that perfectly complements its Android 2.1 Eclair Operating System and TouchWiz User Interface. Its ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor, 512 RAM and 2GB ROM, on the other hand, make sure all applications run smoothly -- including graphics-demanding games. Practically all connectivity options you need on a mobile device are likewise covered; GPRS, 3G, HSPA, Wifi and Bluetooth. Other features and ports include a 5 MegaPixel camera at the back that captures photos with up to 2592 x 1944 pixels resolution and shoots 720p@30fps HD videos, Stereo FM radio with RDS, MicroUSB v2.0, 3.5 mm audio jack and 8 GB or 16GB internal memory options.

Samsung Galaxy S comes in 2 colors, Black and Grey. Right now, the phone is exclusively available via Globe Telecom. The company is offering it for free when you get Plan 2499 (this promo runs from June 30 to July 31, 2010 only). You may also get it via Prepaid Kit (with 5-day free unlimited web surfing) for Php 32,995.

TP Initial Impressions:

Samsung Galaxy S is hands-down one of the sexiest phones I've laid my hands on. It's just incredibly svelte.

Sure, it's a tad wide because of the ginormous screen - making you think twice about putting it in your pocket and running the risk of breaking in it half; But then, it's way too sexy to be placed in such a dark place. Galaxy S is a phone you'd love to flaunt -- be it in a corporate meeting or in an intimate night-out with friends.

That's it for now. :) Stay tuned for TP's full review of the device.

(Thanks for the invite, Miss O! It was nice to see you again, Raine!)
