Today, Apple announced that Mac OS X Lion, the eighth major release of its desktop and notebook operating system with more than 250 new features, is now officially available as a download from the Mac App Store for $29.99.



Some features users can expect to see in Lion include: Mission Control - an innovative view of everything running on your Mac, new Multi-Touch gestures, system-wide support for full screen apps, Mac App Store built right into the OS, a completely redesigned Mail application, and Launchpad - a new home for all your apps.

Additional Mac OS X Lion features include:

• Resume, which conveniently brings apps back exactly how are left when the user restarts his or her Mac or quit and relaunch an app;
• Auto Save, which automatically and continuously saves documents as they are being created;
• Versions, which automatically records the document history and provides an easy way to browse, revert and copy-paste from previous versions; and
• AirDrop, which sniffs out nearby Macs and automatically sets up peer-to-peer wireless connection making file transfer quick and easy.

To get Mac OS X Lion running on your Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, iMac, Mac Mini or Mac Pro, all you have to do is launch the Mac App Store, buy the new operating system with your iTunes account, and the download and installation process will begin automatically. Note that the size of Mac OS X Lion download is around 4GB.
