Blackberry Curve, Blackberry Bold Wifi Connection Problem - Simple Solution - 8520, 8900, 9000, 9700, Storm, Storm2

Elaine S. from Makati City DM'd TechPinas this inquiry via Twitter this morning,
"TechPinas, I recently got BB Curve 8520 (thanks for the review, by the way) and I think it's an amazing phone. However, I'm current having problems surfing the net with it. It can't seem to use our Wifi at home as main connection. I've already set up the Wifi network on the phone; It recognizes the router and connects to it but the Wifi icon on the upper right of the screen is in dull grey and it just doesn't work. What could be the problem? Can you please help me?"

Hi Elaine! I believe this is merely network settings issue. Try this very simple solution:

1. On the main menu, go to Options:

2. Go to Mobile Network settings:

3. Turn on Data Services:

4. Turn on While Roaming:

5. Choose Automatic for Network Selection Mode:

That's it. Easy, right? I hope this solution works for your BB Curve.

Thanks for inquiry!

  2. Just got a 9650, and having similar issues. When I first set it up it surfed a few minutes to test, then went and charged the phone. Since then I have been unable to use the wifi connection. I restarted my router to force issue-ing a new ip address on the router and that all checked fine so I knew there was actually some communication between the two devices -- but this technique did not work for me.
