Smart Bro Surf TV - Price, DEMO, TVC, Package, Details

"Limited access to devices such as desktops computers used to be a barrier to bringing the benefits of the Internet to Filipinos. Even basic desktop computers are still priced beyond what most households can afford. This is what we hope to address through SmartBro SurfTV. With this service, people can access the Internet using a low-cost device and an appliance they already have," shares Danilo J. Mojica, head of SMART’s Wireless Consumer Division.

Really, how can you explain the idea behind Smart Bro Surf TV better than that?

Here's how it works:

1. Connect SmartBro SurfTV to your TV set via RCA port
2. Turn both devices on
3. Plug-in your Smart Bro modem with loaded prepaid SIM to the SurfTV device
4. Start surfing

Quite easy to use, don't you think?

Here are two photos of the SurfTV User Interface:

On the left side, we have what looks like an Opera internet browser icon. You can also see Zoom In, Back, Forward, Favorite and Save buttons. On the right side, we have the scroll bar.

I like it. Off hand, UI looks uncluttered and user-friendly. Hopefully, TP gets a review unit so we could share detailed info on SurfTV experience.

Here's what's included in the boxed set:

Surf TV device
cables
keyboard
mouse
remote control (AA batteries included)
Smart Bro USB stick-type modem
prepaid SIM (pre-loaded with PhP100 worth of load)

Watch the TVC (featuring the Philippine Allstars, Moymoy Palaboy and Ramon Bautista) here:

Here's Ramon Bautista giving a demo of SurfTV, showing us how to transform your ordinary TV into an internet browser so that you can surf, chat, email, view pics, play music and watch videos online :

Price?

SmartBro SurfTV kit only costs Php 4,500 . Net access via Smart Bro plug-in, on the other hand, costs Php 10 every 30 minutes.

Finally, a quote from Mr. Orlando B. Vea, Chief Wireless Advisor of SMART:

“In the same way that SMART’s innovative but affordable offerings made the use of voice and SMS ubiquitous, we would like to turn broadband into another universally available service from which every Filipino will benefit. With our unique and superior combination of wireless broadband networks -- HSPA, HSPA+, WiMAX, and Canopy networks -- blanketing the whole country, SMART is on track to making broadband available and accessible to all.”

  7. If I were you I will jsut buy a second hand computer that is worth 4500.00 atleast it has its own hard drive and you can definitely play games and download songs and movies and store files. Then I will just subscribe to a DSL line or wireless DSL that has an unlimited connection not like this Smart Bro SurfTV that uses the same technology in a cellphone.

I CAN'T EVEN SURF THE NET DAHIL WALANG CONNECTION. KAHIT MAY 3G SIGNAL SA PLACE KO.
AND YUNG MEDIA PLAYER, PAG NANUNUOD AKO NG VIDEOS FROM MY USB NAKA FAST FORWARD AT NAHUHULI YUNG AUDIO.
PAANO KO SYA MAPAPAKINABANGAN? PARA LANG AKONG NAG TAPON NG 4,500!

  15. I wanted to install Smart Bro Share It (this is similar to Surf TV--HSPA) in the past but when I was searching the Web for reviews about Smart Bro, I found this link: The reason behind SmartBro's lockin period. It really opened my eyes. That's why I hope to spread this link so that others might also see. I hope you will spread it too.
